A lot of the mainstream media HATED this dress but I adore it. The proportions of the dress on her teeny body is just mind boggling and the belt is beautiful. And just like Marc and Victoria themselves it's a dress with a sense of humor. Very tongue in cheek. So get in on the joke.

No, I'm not a tacky celebrity blog. Well. Not really. But I just love this video from last night in LA. Poor MK must have had a little bit too much to drink (well, hey! It was Thirsty Thursday!) because the poor little dear stumbles on her way to the car, gets in and then immediately falls back out onto the ground. But from what I can see of her outfit she didn't stumble with that at all!

I went to the mall yesterday just to get out of the house and get a quick massage. But Forever 21 called to me and I figured browsing wouldn't hurt. But it did...
I have a confession to make: As much as I love getting that green Tiffany box or any nice jewelry on a special occasion I swoon. But....
I have a cheap jewelry addiction. Forever 21 is cheap jewelry heaven.
I bought these stackable rings ($4.80), a white and gold leaf cuff ($6.80) as well as an amazing set of stud earrings inspired by everyones favorite fruit: apples, lemons, and strawberries ($4.80).
I also grabbed a pair of cheap semi-gladiator-esque black sandals for $7.50
You can see the faux croc print on them. Its funny I bought them a size smaller than I normally wear (because Forever 21 never has anything in a size large. You're lucky if you find a medium!) and they still feel too loose but they are pretty comfy.
I know it's kind of a controversy shopping at Forever 21. You know that their ripping off designers, poorly treating their workers, and donating huge portions of their profits to Evangelical groups and causes (specifically pro-life) which is a good argument for some people to stay away. I'm firmly pro-choice and while I was browsing the jewelry all I could think about was that I might be funding things that I'm against, as well as encouraging them to continue treating factory workers as subhuman. And yet I see the prices and I cave. I'm currently giving myself a lot of grief over this especially since discovering that at the bottom of ALL of the Forever 21 shopping bags in an almost unnoticeable font- John:316. I'm a Catholic, I have some very strong Christian beliefs, but printing Bible verses on your bag in such a subtle way that people may not even realize their displaying it to others? It makes me uncomfortable.

Sorry for my lack of posts yesterday. I wasn't feeling that great and then I had some family obligations to deal with. Anyway, as promised, my best dressed at Monday night's CFDA Awards.
Ashley Olsen wore Calvin Klein collection in an apparent homage to the late, great YSL. I thought the leather was a design on the bottom of her tapered pants but they're actually the ankle strap for the shoes. She told her website that her current favorite movie is Annie Hall so I suppose that explains the blazer action as of late.
Meredith Melling Burke chose to go the pretty princess route in Oscar de la Renta.
Katie Lee Joel looked youthful yet elegant in (and with) Yigal Azroul.
Doo-Ri Chung opted for feminine simplicity wearing one of her own designs. Don't those platforms look killer? I had to include her just for being able to wear them all night!
And finally the very best dressed of the night...
Kasia Struss in Rodarte. I love how raw and sinister this dress is and yet it's still a fantasy fairy like dress. Its just like how I imagine Tinkerbell would look after snapping and very happily disposing of Wendy Darling. But it's still so beautiful and frothy. I am absolutely in love. Very few women can actually wear Rodarte well and Kasia Struss is lucky enough to be one of them. Jealousy ensues.

Tonight was the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) 2008 awards. I'm so excited that both Francisco Costa (Calvin Klein) and Rodarte won awards! Definitely two of my very favorite collections right now. I'm disappointed in the choice of Tory Burch for accessories. But even as a huge Marc Jacobs fan I don't think any of the nominees were really the best of the year. But Tory Burch?! Seriously?! She has like one design and print that she plasters on everything! It's disappointing that connections and politics play such a huge part into who is nominated and ultimately wins but I suppose that is true in any industry. Anyway, I'll post some red carpet pictures from the event tomorrow but for now here is a list of the nominees and winners according to WWD:
Womenswear Designer of the Year
Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler
Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein
Menswear Designer of the Year
Accessory Designer of the Year
Swarovski Award for Womenswear
Laura and Kate Mulleavy for Rodarte
Swarovski Award for Menswear
Scott Sternberg for Band of Outsiders
Swarovski Award for Accessory Design
Joy Gryson for Gryson
Justin Giunta for Subversive Jewelry
Dries Van Noten
Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award
Good news for Ali Michael! According to Fashionista her mini media tour didn't get her punished by her agency. In fact, she got promoted from DNA's "New Faces" board to their "Women's" board! It's an excellent sign that they're standing firm behind her and will continue to support and nurture her career despite what Paris designers may be thinking. It's a hopeful sign of change in the modeling industry but she's still definitely a very thin girl.

"Fashion fades, style is eternal."
The iconic Yves Saint Laurent died today in Paris at age 71.
Laurent rarely appeared in public and suffered from ill mental and physical health for much of his life. He retired from designing haute couture in 2002. His partner Pierre Berge said he died in his home after a long illness.
The world has truly lost a real artist and visionary.

According to WWD MK&A are teaming up with jewelry designer Robert Lee Morris for line of jewelry for Elizabeth & James! Above is my favorite piece from his Andy Warhol collection (Cross Charm Bracelet in Sterling Silver, $150). I can't wait to see what he comes up with for E&J!
THREE'S A CROWD: Sure he's worked with Anne Klein and is a longtime friend of Donna Karan. Now CFDA award-winning jewelry designer and sculptor Robert Lee Morris is partnering with a new young design duo: Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. According to sources, the trio has been hard at work for the past few months on a collection of jewelry dubbed Robert Lee Morris for Elizabeth and James. Apparently the twins long have been fans of Morris and pored over his vast archives in at his headquarters in downtown Manhattan. The line of silver and brass dagger necklaces, amorphous knuckle rings and edgy earrings will bow in the next few months. A representative for Morris could not be reached for comment.

What? You didn't pre-order tickets to see Sex and the City tomorrow? Really?! Well, that's okay you can still get a fashion fix at the movies. The best supermodel on the entire planet, Gemma Ward, is making her American film debut in The Strangers and it also comes out tomorrow. She plays the (aptly-named) character, Doll Face, who helps two others terrorize a poor couple.
Here is a quick clip featuring Gemma who actually speaks at the end. Even in movies I'm always surprised when I hear a model actually speak. Even one who is wearing a mask and sweats.
I love that French Playboy is just like any fashion magazine in France. Their spreads are very high fashion, editorial and thought provoking which is more than you can say for some American fashion magazines as of late. Can you imagine if these pictures were in American Playboy? Men would be outraged! But I think they're beautiful and interesting and fashion. These photos star every ones favorite 29-year-old model turned jewelry designer, Anouck Lepére. Kate Moss's daughter, Leila Rose, will be her step-daughter. She's engaged to Kate's ex Jefferson Hack, the founder of fashion mag Dazed & Confused.
These pictures feature some nudity (well hello it's still Playboy. Plus, everyone always seems to be partially naked in ANY French magazine) and are not safe for work/school/children/etc.
Anouck Lepére Stats:
Agency: IMG NYC/Paris/London/Milan
Dress: 4 US/34 EU/6 UK
Hips: 32"/81 cm
Waist: 25"/64 cm

Last night was the much anticipated New York Premiere of the movie of Sex and the City! And while they were in their beloved city, and the home of fashion, the girls were a bit less glamorous than at the first premiere in London. But it was filled with beautiful celebrities and the fashion elite.
Kristen Davis in Donna Karan
I have to say I'm pretty disappointed. This was a show that was all about the fashion and they couldn't have gotten their stylists to do them up a little better? But I do really love SJP in the Nina Ricci!
Ashley Olsen, Anna Wintour, and Fergie also hit the red carpet. I love Anna because she can get away with wearing sunglasses no matter where she is or when like on a red carpet at night. If Ashley and Fergie ditched the blazers they'd pretty much have perfect outfits if you ask me. Ashley is wearing pants and a blazer from The Row, a vintage Balenciaga top, a Givenchy belt and a Calvin Klein clutch.
This is the first time I've been tagged! I feel like I'm gonna make it after all!

Lily D just bought herself an apartment down the street from best friend (and fellow super model) Gemma Ward in New York City paying a cool $2.2 million for a co-op building. According to The New York Observer:
Everybody's favorite fashionable duo:
Very blond, well-boned, expensively jeaned buyers have been pouring into East Village apartments for so long that it’s hard to find new excuses to complain about the area’s über-gentrification. But then again, it’s hard to remember when someone as upsettingly young as Lily Donaldson, the 21-year-old Vogue cover girl, spent anything like $2.2 million on a neighborhood apartment, especially one that happens to be as far east as Avenue B.
Her new two-bedroom place on Tompkins Square Park around East Eighth Street could be the most expensive co-op ever sold on the block, according to listing broker Danny Davis.
She has Brazilian cherry wood floors (“that glow with the setting sun,” according to his listing), two bathrooms with original pedestal sinks and cast iron tubs, a 40-foot-long living room with six windows facing three directions, and, of course, a dressing room off one of the two bedrooms.
On the downside, the building is massively nondescript and un-frilled, plus the apartment needs work. “I’d put money into it,” Mr. Davis said, “I’d bet she will, too.”
Nevertheless, it sold for well above its $1.895 million asking price from this December. “I had six offers on the place,” said the broker, though he wouldn’t discuss the deal itself. The model’s rivals included a husband and wife from Goldman Sachs, a bachelor who owns a PR firm, and a woman with a trust fund.
But Ms. Donaldson was “the highest bidder and very qualified. The board liked her and approval was unanimous, which is always a concern when you’re dealing with a young model,” Mr. Davis said. “You’re never sure how a board would see her.”
The last sale in the building, according to city records, was a $650,000 deal just one floor down. That was in October 2004; nowadays, Avenue B has a lot of models and PR executives willing to pay more. Those new buyers make things nice for brokers like Mr. Davis, who wears slicked-back hair and a big smile in his Web site’s photograph: He left for Mexico after the apartment was listed in December, held just one open house when he came back, and accepted Ms. Donaldson’s offer a week later.
After closing, Mr. Davis went south again for a 40th birthday celebration in Jamaica: “Twenty-one people, all friends, no kids,” he said. “Awesome place—yeah, it was great.”

It's no secret that I love Disney to the point of scary obsession. So it's no surprise that I love the Disney Couture line because it blends my two loves: fashion and Disney. Kidada Jones (Quincy Jones' daughter) designs a line of semi-high end Disney jewelry it is super cute. My favorite piece is the Wrap Bracelet it's the perfect way to blend the whimsy of Disney to a more mature look. The bracelet comes in various colors and is inspired by classic Disney movies like Bambi, Alice in Wonderland, and Peter Pan. It's made of soft braided Italian leather with 20 14-k gold charms and is 34" inches long. The line is often worn by celebrities like Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan, and Kate Moss. It's also been featured in magazines such as British Vogue and Elle magazine.
You can wrap it around your arm and wrists however you want and then you tie and knot it yourself. I like how Nicole sometimes wraps hers with other bracelets to give it a chunkier look or you could wear two or three on one arm.
They retail for about $110 each and versions include Alice in Wonderland, Bambi, Princess, Tinkerbell, Sleeping Beauty, Pocahontas, The Seven Dwarfs, etc. They come in all sorts of colors like pale blue, black, pink, navy, white, purple and green. My favorite is the black Sleeping Beauty version:

You might remember that I mentioned the "Miami Vice" shoes from the Chanel Cruise Collection that are in the shape of a gun? Well I finally got a picture of them. They aren't very practical but they are interesting. What do you think? I think it would be pretty cool if you could whip off your shoe and fire a gun if you needed to like some kind of super hero.
I'm not usually a fan of Mischa Barton's style (or of her really) but besides being insanely beautiful she's always willing to take a chance with her style. US Weekly may have dubbed her one of their worst dressed for the Cannes Film Festival but I really loved her Roberto Cavalli hippie chic look!
The dress is a little bit loose around her chest (and she really shouldn't smile with her mouth closed it makes her face look a bit too full) but otherwise I think she accessorised the dress perfectly. Plus, she's one of the few girls I can think of who can actually wear a headband like that.
Here are two more Mischa home runs from this past week at Cannes:
On Wednesday, Alessandra Facchinetti showed her third collection for Valentino in New York. I always associate Valentino with bold, strong evening wear and bright structured pieces with an unadulterated sexiness. But this season Facchinetti showed a softer, more lady like look for Valentino clients in muted, subdued colors and designs. Ruffles, organza gowns, metallic peep toes, high waistlines, and tiny buttons reigned supreme.
My favorite looks:
