How Do You Feel About Jumpers?

I'm totally obsessed with this poplin Lux Onsie from Urban Outfitters! It's only $20 so it'd be a no-brainer but I don't like to buy certain kinds of items without trying them on. Also, I think that jumpers and onsies might be the kind of thing that only looks good on truly petite girls. Have you jumped on the romper look or do you think they should stay on pre-school aged fashionistas only?

Lauren Conrad Sucks

Can someone please tell me how Lauren Conrad gets away with selling leggings for $165?! It's no secret to people who know me that I hate LC and nearly everyone involved with The Hills (except for maybe Whitney) but it IS a secret to me why people love her!
She is not a designer or even an interesting person! And yet people, paparazzi, and magazines seem to fall all over themselves for her! Now, I haven't watched The Hills since before the girls "left" Teen Vogue so I don't know whats supposedly going on in her life (nor do I particularly care) but I think the fact that Kitson, one of the absolute most detestable yet inexplicably popular  LA boutiques, actually DROPPED her line is a sign that her popularity is finally going down.
My dislike of her is so strong that I can't even create a coherent blog post.
But honestly her line is terrible and far too expensive! Not to mention the fact that on the website they even admit that her line is "inspired" (ie almost perfect copies) of other designer's pieces that Lauren has worn, for example, the blurb that accompanies the outfit above:
"The Jaqueline Top is a shorter version of the dress Lauren wore on her date with Brody. "
A. Why would you even bother copying such a hideous dress?
B. That's the least stylish top I've ever seen! Very few people can make the one shoulder top look not tacky. There is a way to make it work and this just doesn't.
C. It retails for a whopping $175!

I'm also confused as to why "Lauren" even BOTHERED getting models for this line. They are all slightly more attractive versions of the girls on the show! If she modeled it herself, and got her friends to model, it might be slightly more successful. Then again, who really wants to look at Audrina's wonky eye and bad boob job anymore than we're already forced to?

Agent Provocateaur Sale!

If you're obsessed with Agent Provocateaur (and lets face it who isn't?) but the only thing you can afford is their not as obsession worthy perfume then you'll be super excited to know that they are having an awesome online sale starting on Monday but because I love you if you click this link you'll have three days of the sale before anyone else!

Ashley Paige Bikini Or Bust...

I'm pretty much obsessed with the TLC show Ashley Paige: Bikini or Bust. It's this reality show that follows bikini designer Ashley Paige as she tries to build her business and non-profit organization. Ashley's fairly well known as she's a favorite of many young Hollywood actresses such as Lindsay Lohan and Kate Hudson but because of her high production costs (all of her bikinis are knitted and hand made in her shop in LA) and lack of investors the girl can barely pay her rent. Yes, like many reality shows there are obvious set ups for entertainment purposes but for the most part it's an honest look at a small town girl trying to make it. Plus, she seems like a really down-to-earth, cheerful, regular girl who spends most of her time taking in stray dogs and helping them find loving forever homes through her non-profit organization. What's not to love about a girl like that?
As I was watching the show I decided to check out Ashley's official home page and found out that she actually happily does custom bikinis via her store and website! Can you imagine how great it must feel to know that not only does the bikini look exactly how you want it but it also perfectly fits your body? Prices aren't listed so I'm sure it's expensive but some luxuries are just worth it.
Check out her designs and the show!

A Model Moment: I Know What You Were Doing 3 Years Ago Rosie!

Is Burberry going to have to fire another model due to another not so scandalous drug scandal? Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, a London based model signed to Models 1, took this picture 3 or 4 years ago with models Jennifer Pugh, and Alexsandra Roastovic with a bong. It's causing this big uproar since the now 21-year-old is the new face of Burberry having replaced boring It-Girl Agyness Deyn. They dumped Kate Moss for her cocaine scandal and she came back better and bigger than ever. Should she be dropped or should Burberry just suck it up, realize it's from 3 years ago, and accept that the average person seeing a Burberry ad probably doesn't know the difference between Lily D, Rosie, and Agyness?

I Hate Ed Hardy.

I have a pretty basic fashion rule of thumb. Much as I love her if Britney Spears is wearing something I don't. You would think that many people would feel that this is a good idea. You would be wrong. Ed Hardy has taken over suburban America and is killing it. It's also taken over young and tacky Hollywood. Everyone from Kate Beckinsale and Elizabeth Taylor to Ashley Tisdale and Mario Lopez. Pornographer Larry Flint is also a big fan. Basically, if you're occasionally photographed by the paparazzi you're probably wearing it. This does not make it okay.
That pink crystal encrusted tee Britney has on? It retails for a disgusting $154. Britney, naturally, got the shirt and 4 other large shopping bags worth of merchandise for free during a visit to the LA warehouse.
The designer, Christian Audigier , is also responsible for such illustrious lines as Von Dutch and Crystal Rock.

I'm much more forgiving of the Ed Hardy bathing suits. Bathing suit shopping is stressful and usually traumatic so if you find one in a style, shape, color and fit that you like and feel good in and it happens to be by Ed Hardy by all means rock it with pride. Just please don't finish it off with an Ed Hardy hat, tattoo print Ed Hardy hoodie, and crystal encrusted Ed Hardy shorts. I'm looking at you Madonna.

If Only American Vogue Could Be So Provocative...

Love or hate PETA, (or the people who wear fur) you have to admit that this is one of the more clever and tongue-in-cheek editorials that have come out in a while. I'm giving Carine Roitfeld a standing ovation on this one! But OH! This is probably not safe for work or children because being French there is obviously a bit of nudity.
I always feel very conflicted about fur. I personally can't afford it but I think it's beautiful and classic. Fake/Synthetic fur, even Stella McCartney's which often costs close to a thousand dollars a piece, looks cheap, and feels terrible. And there are still parts of the world where it is truly too cold for just a double breasted wool or down stuffed coat. At the same time I know how they get it and the idea of those poor animals being brutalized their entire lives and then being met with a horrific ending is enough to make me sob. And yet I can manage, unfortunately, to separate living animals from the steak on my table and the fur in my magazines.  I hate PETA. I find their tactics to be much more about publicity than actually helping animals. Honestly, their numerous and, often simultaneous, campaigns can cost upwards of a million dollars...each. Can you imagine what they could do if they used those millions to, oh I don't know, ACTUALLY HELP ANIMALS?! It's all well and good to attack high-profile figures if it actually makes a point and makes a difference but they really don't. Treating people inhumanely and without respect won't in return cause them to treat you and your cause with respect. If anything it only produces more venom on both sides of the argument.

A Celebrity Moment: Leighton Meester at the CBS/CW/Showtime Party in Hollywood July 18th

<span class=
It's no secret that I am utterly obsessed with Leighton Meester. Well, OK, I'm obsessed with her character, Blair Waldorf. But since Gossip Girl has become the darling of TV Leighton's style has morphed from wannabe starlet to sophisticated New Yorker. Thank God!
She looks absolutely stunning in this Zac Posen Pre-Fall 08 mini-dress don't you think? I love how structured the design is and also that it fits her like a glove. My only critique is that I wouldn't have worn plain black stiletto pumps...I would have gone with a bright blue shoe to make the ensemble pop!
While co-star Blake Lively is being compared to The OC's Mischa Barton, Leighton is happily staying somewhat under the radar with comparison's to the OC's Rachel Bilson. And I'd like it to stay that way. Blake is getting much too overexposed and she's far less talented and stylish than Leighton in my (humble) opinion.
I'm not sure I can stand waiting for the September 1st premiere of Gossip Girl...especially since avoiding spoilers is becoming nearly impossible thanks to the paparazzi stalking the set

I Must Have This. I Must Have This Now...

Yes, that is a cartoon Karl Lagerfeld t-shirt. Yes, it is awesome. Strangely, it's from Urban Outfitters. It's also on sale and therefore nearly completely sold out. If you go to their website it's now available only in extra-small...big surprise right?
So I called all three MA Urban Outfitters locations and found it in a medium at the last store I called! I am crazy excited! Hopefully it will be long enough and not too tight around the shoulders but even if it is I don't really care because I love it.  Especially his pink little kissy mouth!
That is one of my best shopping tips. If the website is sold out of something you love call the stores locations in your area and ask for it in your size. If the store has it they'll usually ship it directly to you at the same shipping price as the website. Also, sometimes the price in store is different from the price online (example: this Karl t-shirt is on sale for $19.99 on the website. In store it's $9.99 which means my total including shipping was only $17.80--had I ordered it online it would have been closer to $30.)
So, now I just have to wait 7-10 business days before I can be a walking homage to my one true love!

A Model Moment: FINALLY A Model Reality Show That Actually Reflects The Industry!

According to The Wall Street Journal Vogue and IMG Models have teamed up to create a reality web show, Model.Live,  featuring 3 recently signed IMG models as they navigate castings, model apartments, fashion weeks, and life away from home for the first time.
I'm incredibly excited for the August 19th premiere and continues for 12, 8-minute episodes which really doesn't seem enough to me! One of the things that I find so frustrating about fashion reality shows (which are so rarely real) is that it promotes falsities about the industry. And, unlike Tyra's proteges, these girls have an actual shot at being top models in fact one of girls, Cato Van Ee, has already modeled for Prada and Miu Miu
The producers promise to face the dark issues of the industry head on including harsh casting directors, weight issues, and the general stress placed on the girls. Plus they've promised  that for any moment that can not be filmed (such as castings or meetings that won't allow filming) the girls will blog about their experiences. Although scenes of underage drinking, smoking, and other controversial behavior prevalent in the industry may be censored to protect the girls from embarrassment which I suppose is polite and all but definitely removes from the reality.
Still, I'm beyond excited for a show that actually reflects the way the modeling industry works!
Model.Live premieres on August 19th on Vogue. TV and will also be "syndicated" to sites like Veoh.Com

I've been a huge fan of Sass & Bide since it's underground days in Australia. But I'm not a fan of their exorbitant prices. So I was pretty excited to hear that they were launching a diffusion line, S&B Vie, that promised to be more affordable and just as amazing.
Well, they lied.
On Sass & Bide's online boutique pieces from the original line range from $170 to $850 while S&B Vie's cheapest piece is a tacky, slogan t-shirt at $99 and seems to top off around $400. Granted, this is MORE affordable than the original line but the pieces are so uninspired. If I wanted a t-shirt that says, "Peace, Love, Happiness" I'd go to Target and get it for $8.95. I definitely wouldn't shell out $100 for one! And I'm not sure that I'd spring on a techno-color dream coat at for $320 either
Creator of Sass & Bide,Sarah Jean-Clarke, told Nylon magazine that she loves that the lines have their own individual personalities and that, "S&B Vie really captures the spirit of youth and fun in life."
Um, sure, maybe if it was still 1976 and reflecting the youth of THAT time. From what I've seen the line is so unimpressive! Why couldn't they have just taken their original concept, tweaked it, and made it more affordable? Why does "diffusion" line automatically have to equal bad and especially poor quality for the money? Marc Jacobs and Chloe both have fantastic diffusion lines that respects the view of the original collections, yet have their own directions, and manage to maintain the same level of quality while being much more affordable (especially in comparison to their grown up lines)...why can't other designers follow their lead?!?!

A Model Moment: Daisy Lowe Ditches IMG New York...

Model, Celebuspawn, British It Girl and Mark Ronson's girlfriend, Daisy Lowe, has split with her New York agency, IMG, after only seven months. Home in England she's still signed with Women but there is no word yet on which agency (if any) snatched her up in New York. Since IMG is probably the best and the biggest I find it strange that she chose to leave especially since IMG released a polite statement:
"She's a beautiful girl and we wish her well."
It seems to me like maybe IMG dropped her but since she was actually signed to their Celebrity board (and not their Women's board) and her profile is rising thanks to her relationship with Mark Ronson they'd decide to keep her. Oh well I guess we'll find out soon enough whats going on with her!

Here Comes The Bride...

So Saturday I'm going to my cousin's wedding shower. He's marrying the most glamorous girl ever and so one of my presents is the Philosophy Here Comes The Bride gift set. It's impossible to find on the Cape (where I am right now) because the Cape is being hit super hard by the recession. We were at the mall and store after store was just completely empty. It was really creepy. And the stores that were open almost all had signs that said, "Cash Only."
Anyway, I called around and even my trusty Sephora in Burlington which I thought I could always count on doesn't have it. I finally found three at a Nordstrom so they're holding one for me which is nice.
It made me pretty sad that my usually vibrant and bustling Cape Cod is getting kicked at the knees. The hotels/motels all have vacancy signs, there aren't many cars on the road, the beaches are nearly empty (actually thats pretty nice...) and it's breaking my heart.
If you have time and want to go for a nice break you should come to Cape Cod! It's beautiful and nice and fun and there is lots to do!

Has the recession changed your shopping habits? Or are you just pretending that everything is fine and that you have plenty of cash and credit to buy that bag/dress/shoes? I was pretty much in denial at home in my cushy, west of Boston suburb. I mean, the mall there is always packed and is opening a free standing Burberry store! There seems to be an endless amount of cash to be spent by everyone. But now that I'm at our beach house the reality of the situation is hitting me hard. And don't talk to me about President Bush saying that this isn't a recession-it is. And it's scary.
Even I'm not shelling out the $10 I would for my British magazines, I just sit down at the Barnes & Noble Starbucks and read them there!

Vogue finally decides to put a model on the cover but...

<span class=

I'm sure by now you all know that Kate Moss was shot by Mario Testino for the August cover of American Vogue. How disappointing is this cover? Granted, it's American Vogue and their covers are always so boring and commercial but with the hype surrounding the shoot a few months ago and the rumors that circulated you'd think they'd at least choose an interesting cover shot! I mean it's beautiful but so predictable! If there was a way to make American Vogue more relevant and back on the top of the fashion mag game shooting an edgy Kate Moss editorial would have been it. I suppose the average consumer doesn't know the difference and wants pretty pictures of people they know when they shell out money for Vogue. Sales on their print advertising space seems to be as good as ever despite the turn towards the internet and at the end of the day I have to accept that it's a business and it's there to make money and commercial looks is what sells issues and subscriptions. But for me fashion and fashion photography will always be art and it's so disappointing to see opportunities for brilliance so completely wasted.
I hope this didn't kill my dream of someday working at Vogue...

A Heatherette Tribute

It's becoming more and more obvious that Heatherette is headed for an official "divorce" announcement - although it might be hard for them to actually make the announcement since they no longer have a publicity team! Rumors of a breakup between designers Richie Rich and Trevor Rains have been running rampant for easily six months despite a high profile makeup collaboration with MAC.
While Richie Rich is getting ready for his compilation album and, um, unfortunately, a Hot Topic line to hit stores I thought I'd reminisce about some of my favorite Heatherette looks since I'm pretty disappointed that I'll never get a chance to attend one of their famously flamboyant shows.

He Smiled At Me Once; I Swooned

"I mean, the Croc--it looks like a plastic hoof. How can you take that seriously? I know it's comfortable; I understand that. But if you want to dress to feel as though you never got out of bed, don't get out of bed." -Tim Gunn, Time Magazine

He's such a dapper gentleman.

Valentino Fall 2008 Couture

Alessandra Facchinetti's couture debut stumbled a few times while she attempted to bridge who she is as a designer with the style and imagery of the iconic house but for the most part she seems to have established herself with this collection as the next best thing to the recently retired Valentino himself. While Style.Com may have felt that some pieces were too weighed down with embroidery and beading I loved most of the detailing. But I especially loved her use of chiffon...I think she should consider it her speciality! Oh, to have a piece of Valentino Couture of my very own...! Someday, someday!
Here are some of my favorite looks from the collection:
<span class=
<span class=
I'm not actually a fan of that last look; I just was fascinated by how it really made her appear to be completely 2d...she literally looks like a paper doll! There is also just something really creepy about the design. It reminds me of Lurch from the Addams Family!
