If Only American Vogue Could Be So Provocative...

Love or hate PETA, (or the people who wear fur) you have to admit that this is one of the more clever and tongue-in-cheek editorials that have come out in a while. I'm giving Carine Roitfeld a standing ovation on this one! But OH! This is probably not safe for work or children because being French there is obviously a bit of nudity.

I always feel very conflicted about fur. I personally can't afford it but I think it's beautiful and classic. Fake/Synthetic fur, even Stella McCartney's which often costs close to a thousand dollars a piece, looks cheap, and feels terrible. And there are still parts of the world where it is truly too cold for just a double breasted wool or down stuffed coat. At the same time I know how they get it and the idea of those poor animals being brutalized their entire lives and then being met with a horrific ending is enough to make me sob. And yet I can manage, unfortunately, to separate living animals from the steak on my table and the fur in my magazines.  I hate PETA. I find their tactics to be much more about publicity than actually helping animals. Honestly, their numerous and, often simultaneous, campaigns can cost upwards of a million dollars...each. Can you imagine what they could do if they used those millions to, oh I don't know, ACTUALLY HELP ANIMALS?! It's all well and good to attack high-profile figures if it actually makes a point and makes a difference but they really don't. Treating people inhumanely and without respect won't in return cause them to treat you and your cause with respect. If anything it only produces more venom on both sides of the argument.
