A Celebrity Moment: MK at Milan International Airport

How unbelievable is that coat? MK never fails to amaze me with her style when she's in Europe and her arrival at Milan International Airport this morning was no exception!
How can she looks so stunning and glamorous after a direct flight to Italy from LA?!
I get on a plane in my VS PINK yellow sweats scrunched up, with flip flops and a too big men's v-neck Hanes undershirt!
She truly dresses.
Can anyone ID that amazing coat?!

A Celebrity Moment:Eva Longoria in Marchesa

<span class=
Not even two weeks after the Marchesa SS 09 presentation in New York Eva Longoria wore one of the looks to tonights Emmy Awards. And basically completely ruined it. It's a hard dress for anyone to pull off and I give her props for even trying but man...not a good look.
Sorry Eva!

A Socialite Moment: Julia Restoin Roitfeld at The New Yorkers for Children Benefit

How is it that Julia Restoin Roitfeld can make even black NYLONS look chic?!
And why can't I be her?

I'm super flattered because the lovely Celeste at Audrey Monroe chose to interview me for her blog and for a profile for one of her classes!
She asked about blogging, Boston and, of course, fashion!
To read part of the interview go to Audrey Monroe!
Thank you so much, Celeste!

In other news the rumor going around is that Ashley Olsen has begun working on a menswear portion of The Row. I can't imagine too many boys wearing it but I can see their girlfriends scooping it up. Are you picturing lots of skinny tuxedo pants or is that just me?

TopShop?????

Topshop was supposed to finally open it's long-awaited first US store this fall. In fact, I'm pretty sure the store was supposed to open in NYC during fashion week.
But according to Refinery29 and the Financial Times the store now won't be opening until Spring 2009. Considering this is at least the second time that they've pushed back the opening I'm starting to think it might never happen.

Temperley London SS 09

I know a lot of people really hated the Temperley show. Expectations ran high and maybe the end result was a bit of a let down. But there were a lot of pieces that I thought stood out.
I'm not a huge fan of women in tuxedos but I understand wanting to recreate the look. Thats why I think this tuxedo dress is the only way rock the style.

<span class=

The signature Temperley sweetness was mixed with a new layer of sophistication. This was Alice Temperley's first show back in London after several seasons in NYC seemed inspired by tea parties and life of luxury and leisure. Maybe thats why the collection hasn't gotten the warmest response? What works in a garden at Windsor doesn't always translate to the cold reality of Manhattan. There were times towards the end of the show that pieces were a bit too reminiscent of Erin Fetherston's recent disaster but for the most part these were pieces to be embraced and worn by girls who may be quiet but refuse to be wall flowers.

London Fashion Week: Luella SS 09

Be girlie, be pretty, be colorful, be a little over the top. Add some frilly pieces, lady like gloves, satin, and tulle in psychedelic colors somehow translated into chic and cool rather than grandma's closet. Luella hit the cheerful note that we desperately needed.

Boston Fashion Week

It's Boston fashion week  but it's also London fashion week.
You can find the event schedule for Boston here.
Tonight is the Stuff@Night after party at Cafeteria on Newbury St at 10 PM.
My awesome mentor, Erica Corsano, is super involved in the events and is writing a great blog for Stuff@Night to cover it!
Most of the presentations this week in Boston are presented by stores and magazines rather than a show by individual designers of their upcoming collections.

Sorry for the lack of updates. I was in a minor car accident on Thursday (forcing me to miss my first day at Dress) and was at the ER. It's really thrown me off balance. Even the TopShop show from London today couldn't cheer me up.

A Model Moment: Obviously better than McCain/Palin

These adorable political model pins are being passed out for free at the tents as ads for the upcoming Modelina website. How cute are they? Yet another reason I wish I was in New York this week. Although crashers probably don't get the freebies.

New York Fashion Week:

Do you need an Oscar dress? Than look no further than Marchessa Spring/Summer 09.
These are dresses for glamour goddesses beautifully crafted and structured with feathery blossoms emerging from the garments. If you look closely you can see references to Asian culture with references to origami and mandarin collars. Designer Georgina Chapman hit all the rights marks.
PS: Can you spot Model.Live's Cato Van Ee in a picture below??

New York Fashion Week: Rodarte Spring Summer 09

Rodarte continues to be the stuff my dreams are made of. The Mulleavy sisters other-worldly creations are  far from commercial making them a hard sell for stores; Other than the occasional red carpet appearance their garments are rarely seen...I don't even know where you would go to buy them besides directly to the company.
That might be part of why I love Rodarte...it's an incredibly intellectual and conceptional collection. You can't look at it without feeling somehow provoked.
Structured slashes lent the look of an exoskeleton to pieces and it was clear that the armor of flesh was present throughout the collection. From feathers to leathers to chains and scales to long hair embellishments this was a story about a post-apocalyptic nature. Towards the end of the collection longer gowns mimicked the elements-water and fire-as if the big bang erupted over the models and rained down to dress them in the ashes.
I'm in love.

A Model Moment: Agyness Deyn at Rodarte

Agyness Deyn (AKA LAURA HOLLINS!) looking woefully out of place on the Rodarte catwalk.
I don't get the obsession with her but I think it's finally started to wane this season so far thank GOD. Blech. Her appearence very nearly ruined my favorite designer's show!
But I'll get past it.

Anna Wintour Sprinting At Derek Lam...

Thats one way to avoid the crush of people leaving the tents!

New York Fashion Week: Marc by Marc Jacobs PT 2

Marc by Marc Jacobs was a youthful extension of his signature collection from the previous night. (Mommy Dearest has already been roped into buying me the jacket above on Chanel Iman when it hits stores in the spring!)
If you love the jumper trend then you'll be happy to see it back along with colorful rope necklaces, summer weight scarves, and lots of layering.
It was a great collection that, while not ambitious, is definitely going to be a big hit with the younger crowd; expect a commercial hit to be carried in lots of stores.
PS: How cute was Mark during his bow? Love the kilt, Marc!
