I Still Hate PETA....

I'm sure by now you've all seen, or at least heard about, Lindsay Lohan being floured by a PETA supporter outside of an event in Paris the other night.
I'm not going to really argue the points of fur or leather as ethical or not. I think it's up to an individual to decide if something is right for their life or not. As horrific as the fur trade is if I could afford it I'd probably wear it (although I'd try to find vintage fur first.) I wear leather and I eat meat. If that makes me a bad person then...
Anyway, Lindsay was wearing a lovely black fur vest to an event she was hosting in Paris and a tiny French woman yelled, "Lindsay!" and then poured flour all over her. Lindsay ran and then security strong armed the woman away while paparazzi asked her why she did that she responded, "Because she wore fur! FUR HAG!" before running away looking like an idiot.

Check out the video from X17:

My problem with PETA isn't that they want animals to be treated ethically. I want animals to be treated well too! It's that they use the majority of their $32 million a year to create high-profile ad campaigns attacking celebrities, designers, chefs and the average American including a campaign targeted at very young children entitled "YOUR MOMMY KILLS ANIMALS!" . They frequently donate money to convicted arsonists as well as to ELF and ALF two organizations that are on the FBI's domestic terrorist group list. But the worst part is that they could have used this income (the majority of which was donated by people thinking it would be used to actually help animals) to find homes for the 22,896 healthy, adoptable pets their HQ shelter received in the past ten years rather than euthanizing 19,215 of them. Yes, PETA's own shelter kills the majority of the animals it takes in. And actually uses a walk-in freezer  to keep the bodies until they can be picked up by the crematorium.
"In 2000, when the Associated Press first noted PETA's Kervorkian-esque tendencies, PETA president Ingrid Newkirk complained that actually taking care of animals costs more than killing them. "We could become a no-kill shelter immediately," she admitted."

Ingrid Newkirk also maintains that PETA is for total animal liberation and for animal liberation to really occur besides ending the fur trade, banning leather, and turning everyone vegan one of the goals is to end pet ownership. I guess it's more ethical to euthanize a healthy animal than to give them a good home. Isn't that just a bit hypocritical?

Rather than harassing designers, celebrities and chefs who don't have their beliefs how about embracing and celebrating those who do? Actually save animals at risk! I understand and appreciate the passion of the people who protest events and of course I think they should be able to continue to do so but what is that saying? You'll kill more bees with honey? If Samantha Ronson's Myspace rant shows anything its that Lindsay being attacked hasn't made her want to convert to faux fur and soy burgers.

Archaeologists recently discovered this 2,000 year old earring under a parking lot in Jerusalem and literally jumped out of the excavation site yelling EUREKA!
Apparently there was a destroyed Byzantine structure under this old parking lot but they believe that the earring is even older than the ruins and that it had been passed down in a family for generations! In fact, it's actually believed to be a piece from the Roman Empire era because jewelry had usually been melted down and/or sold during the many takeovers of the city after the demise of the Roman Empire.
It's made of gold, a giant pearl, two emeralds and two smaller pearls. In the statement that was released along with the photograph the archaeologists expressed amazement at just how well preserved the earring had been after all this time.

Can you imagine if they found the matching earring? I hope that they will be able to archive this and have it on display and maybe tour it with an exhibit. It's such an amazing piece not only in terms of jewelry but in the context of history. I'm sure it has such a story to tell and I hope we're able to hear it someday.

Sigerson Morrison For Target Flats

So I know they are a little tacky and probably not very comfortable but I am totally obsessed with these Sigerson Morrison for Target flats. And it looks like I'm not the only one! The shoes are actually completely sold out from the Target website. If you're  not satisfied they also come in a pretty pump and lots of different colors.

A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes...

It might seem a little lame to have a wedding dress based around an animated movie but I'm simply in love with this dress inspired by Cinderella. It's from the Disney Bridal Fall 2008 Cinderella collection designed by Kirstie Kelly. Every season Kelly designs wedding gowns, prom, bridesmaid and flower girl dresses based around seven classic Disney princesses. Kirstie has been designing timeless looks for the past 12 years and just a few seasons ago signed up to work with Disney to create an all encompassing luxury bridal label.
So now I have everything I need for my fairy tale wedding except for one tiny detail: the groom. Oh yeah, and the engagement rings!

A Celebrity Moment: Lindsay Lohan in Harper's Bazaar December

I was lucky enough to meet Miss Lindsay Lohan a few weeks ago. She was incredibly sweet and ridiculously beautiful. Seriously, pictures and film do not do this girl justice.
Anyway she's gracing the cover of the Harper's Bazaar for December and I'm not a huge fan. She looks great but the styling and set is just terribly blah. Plus, how many times have we seen her in a white Marilyn-esque dress? Enough already!

It's not quite the white mask of my dreams but how fun would it be to walk down Charles St wearing your Luella Batman Mask Sunglasses? Or just all the time?
It would be super fun but probably not $400 worth--of course you could always rent them for $36 a week!

A Boston Benefit

Christopher's Haven is a great place where families with children undergoing cancer treatment in Boston can have a home-away-from-home. On Your Feet Project is helping to raise money for Christopher's Haven by hosting a party and fashion show on November 13th at Parris. There will also be goody bags and a live/silent auction.
Please help out this great cause and attend! Tickets are only $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

Thanks to PunkyStyle for letting me know!

Sofia Coppola for Louis Vuitton!

Suzy Menkes interviewed the amazing Sofia Coppola  this week in Paris to discuss her Louis Vuitton collaboration. She's created an amazingly sophisticated accessories line for the brand. It's not surprising that Sofia has done a high-profile project since she's been Marc Jacobs (he is creative director and head designer at LV) muse for most of his career and she is possibly the chicest modern woman.
The bags are based around her ideal day bag while the shoes are based on a memory of a pair of YSL's that belonged to her mother in the 1970s. And while this isn't her first trip down the fashion road (she co-founded the super adorable Milk Fed in the 90s with friends) she almost (almost) rules out the idea of doing a full on  collection claiming she doesn't have the patience to really learn about proportions and details.
The line is launching in Tokyo on December 5th and will hit LV stores world wide in March.

A Celebrity Moment: Britney & Rodarte?

Anyone who reads Bostonista on a fairly regular basis knows my obsession with Rodarte.
I'm also a huge Britney Spears fan although if there are two things that don't go together it is Britney and high fashion.
Which is why I almost fainted this morning when Fashionista pointed out that Britney is wearing a Rodarte dress on the cover of her upcoming album, Circus. I can't believe I didn't notice it before! Although to be honest I glanced at the artwork thought "eh" and moved on.
Can Britney even pronounce Rodarte? And even though she looks beautiful why on earth didn't the photographer use the theme of the album and the odd shaped dress to better advantage?

Stalking Uncle Karl...

You may have heard the rumor that Karl Lagerfeld had bought an estate in a tiny Vermont town and planned to shoot Chanel campaigns there. Well, it's true! A local Vermont news team spotted God on the property this week and apparently both renovations and photo shoots have already begun to take place!
Who else thinks a road trip to Vermont is suddenly a million times more appealing?
Teen Vogue is opening a temporary store in a mall in New Jersey where it won't sell anything.
It didn't make much sense to me either but then the New York Times explained.
Considering that Conde Nast just cut 5% off its budget (resulting in Men's Vogue being absorbed into Vogue as a twice yearly supplement and Portfolio losing most of it's web staff and being reduced to ten issues a year) and other teen magazines like CosmoGirl! have folded entirely building this kind of small but fiercely loyal audience is probably a good call on Teen Vogue's part. If I were a 16-year-old Jersey girl I'd be there chomping my bubble gum every day.

A Celebrity Moment: MK in TANK Magazine

You're probably sick of me gushing about MK but she is a fashion icon so you'll just have to deal with it.

A Celebrity Moment: Victoria Beckham for Armani!

Armani announced today that Victoria Beckham will be helping to launch the first Emperio Armani Women's Underwear Collection by starring in the international global advertising campaign. Her husband, David Beckham, infamously posed for the designer for the Emperio Armani Men's Underwear collection. Last spring Victoria wore a lace Armani creation to the famed Costume Institute Gala in New York City where Giorgio was a co-chair to the event.

The Costume Institute Met Exhibit Theme is...

Well, okay, it's actually, "The Model As Muse: Embodying Fashion" but as a self-proclaimed model junkie that just translates into one word for me...MODELS!
I love them. I don't know why. It might be the way that they look like aliens, or that I wish I could be that skinny, or at least well-traveled. Whatever the reason is I love them. So the MET hosting an entire exhibit based entirely around them is like a dream!

Anna Wintour has picked the ultimate model Kate Moss to co-chair the May 4th opening night event in addition to Marc Jacobs and....Justin Timberlake. I don't know why she picked Justin Timberlake but I suppose its a less strange combination than last years Julia Roberts, George Clooney, and Giorgio Armani.  I would have preferred Kate Moss, Gemma Ward, Natalia Vodianova, Karlie Kloss, Iman, and Christy Turlington but I'll take what I can get.

In honor of this awesome news I give you some fantastic pictures of my favorite type of person.

Fashion + Politics = Oil + Water

Considering that President Bush just signed an anti-counterfeiting bill putting $25 million towards preventing the creation and sale of fakes as well as stiffer consequences for pirates of intellectual property is it appropriate for a high profile candidate to be endorsing carrying a fake?
A lot of people don't see the harm in a knock off bought off the street. And I'm all for recreating a runway look or high end trend in an inexpensive way especially in this economic climate. But there is a difference between being stylish on the cheap and buying a fake, copyright infringed bag off the street.
This bag that she is allowing her 7-year-old daughter to carry was produced by a child, in a filthy usually underground factory for very, very little money. And most of these factories are in US cities because it's easier to produce them here than smuggle the counterfeits into the US.
It is common knowledge that the sale of counterfeit luxury goods supports human trafficking and child prostitution. Some say that it helps to fund terrorism. Regardless, it flaunts child labor laws so extremely they might as well not exist.
It's possible that Sarah Palin isn't aware of any of this. It's possible she believes that it is a real LV bag. If thats the case then there is something unsettling about allowing a 7 year old to carry a $790 bag in front of a struggling America.

For more on this check out Fashionista, Bryan Boy, Gawker and countless other blogs.

Hair Supply by Soap & Glory Review

Soap & Glory has fast become my favorite bath & body line. You might remember my obsession with the Flirtigo spray body moisturizer (I'm on my second bottle!) and I've continued trying out their products since then. I love their packaging, the fact that it was created by Bliss mastermind Marcia Kilgore, and their great prices!
My hair has always been a sore spot for me. It's frizzy, and coarse. Some spots are wavy and others are stick straight. It's also crazy thick. Plus, my blonde obsession (stemming from mommy dearest btw) doesn't help the situation. I'm always looking for hair products that will condition, smooth, and, most importantly, SOFTEN it.
But most products are heavy and weigh it down, or sticky and make it look and feel greasy. Its super frustrating.
So, when I was at Target in Watertown the other day I naturally ambled over to the Soap & Glory aisle. And thank god that I did! I picked up Hair Supply a conditioner/deep mask. I always figure what the heck and I am SO thrilled that I tried it. Hair Supply has a special gel formula but looks and works like a cream to hydrate and de-frizz without adding weight!
First off the actual product smells amazing. A very light almost peach scent thats very clean. Some products are very overwhelming but when my hair was dry it just was very delicate and sweet. It was SUPER hydrating but still very light. I loved how it felt on my hair (I left it on for five minutes as a masque but its definitely good as a daily conditioner too) and then it actually rinsed out really easily without leaving any kind of residue.
Afterwards my hair looked and felt amazing. Amaaaazing!!! It was much softer than usual, and actually looked glossy, not greasy, for the first time ever! I just can't get over how healthy my hair looks! If it's worked this well after just one use...will I have a chance of the Heidi Klum-esque hair I dream of? Okay, probably not, but I think my hair will be the best that MY hair can be and thats pretty damn exciting.
Plus at $9.99 no one can beat the price!

Soap & Glory is available exclusively in the US at Target and Target.Com

A Celebrity Moment: Victoria Beckham in Christian Louboutin for Rodarte

I'm not usually a huge fan of Posh's sartorial choices (though I do love her) but you know my Rodarte obsession runs deep. Last night, on a date with her hot husband, she wore the Christian Louboutin for Rodarte shoes and paired their bad ass awesomeness with a lacy, girlie mini dress. Its just the sort of thing I always want to wear. Love, love, love.
