Chanel Fall 09

Karl Lagerfeld's Fall 09 collection for Chanel was a love letter to everything that made the line so iconic: suits, bags, and little black dresses. While it wasn't his best work, or anywhere close to being the best Chanel collection, it was light and fun and all about the accessories that probably bring in the majority of the house's revenue.
I didn't like the Lucite bags (I don't need the world seeing what I'm carrying) but they did have specific spaces for all your Chanel goodies (sunglasses, I-pod, lipstick, etc) making it the ultimate piece for all you label whores.
While looks for day were all about over embellishments with chunky knits and some interesting (but in my opinion great) color choices of green and pink to compliment the beautiful jade jewelry that the girls wore in abundance, Uncle Karl kept it discreet with simple, spare black dresses for evening.
Oh and you know I'll be obsessing over the mint green nail polish when it hits stores in a few months.

And aren't the hats and eye makeup just divine? I wish I could live my life exclusively in Chanel Fall 09!

A Model Moment: Caroline Trentini at YSL

Because we all need a leather bustier/bathing suit.
Especially after having seen Caroline Trentini look like wonder woman in it.

Viktor & Rolf Fall 2009

Classical marble statues walked the runway at Victor & Rolf. Even the clothing seemed to be chiseled from stone. It may not have been wearable but was oh so beautiful.
Delicious.

Happy Birthday Barbie!

Happy 50th Birthday Barbie!
I know we haven't always seen eye to eye (I'm really sorry about the whole hair cutting incident of '89 and all those times I carried you by your feet and let your head bang against every wall) but you're a fashion icon who is intelligent, successful, kind, and beautiful so happy birthday!
BTW in honor of your big celebration Target is selling a limited-edition Barbie for only $3 because that is how much you cost when you first hit the scene!

Jean Paul Gaultier F/W 2009!

What do you get when you cross nineties grunge with forties pin ups? Jean Paul Gaultier's Fall 2009 collection!
It's not really a surprise that I would love this since it includes all of my favorite things: masks, hoods, furs, boots and drinks!
Theatrics ensued with a (planned) cat fight between Coco Rocha and another model that only ended when a dominatrix cracked her whip! Between models attacking, PETA protesting outside, and alcohol on the runway you might think that there wasn't much room for amazing clothing. But you'd be very wrong.
Bondage was a clear theme throughout the collection like with the hooded trench coats, and the harness straps decorating cocktail dresses and X motifs on everything from silk shifts to kimono-esque gowns. The best part of the collection were Gaultier's androgynous but very wearable suits. And while sexuality was evident it was never over the top or cheap.
Sublime!

Lagerfeld Collection F/W 09

It's certainly not anything new. And it is very Chanel-like but, well, he designs Chanel as well so is it that surprising that eventually his inspirations or ideas for labels would overlap? Anyway, it was sleek and modern if not colorful and new. Besides, I think it showed his cynical side in terms of what sells from collections now (accessories!) and where technology is leading us.

A Celebrity Moment: Stylish Sisters

Shiloh and Zahara Jolie-Pitt went shopping at Jan's Boutique in DC today. They are so close in age and size but it's funny how clearly their personalities have come out in their style. Shiloh is a tomboy and ZZ is clearly a girlie-girl diva just look at the shoes: chucks vs sparkle flats! But the sisters do share some taste in accessories with their matching sunglasses and watches.
I don't know what the girls picked out for clothes but they did get incredibly fluffy looking stuffed animals: Zahara picked a cow and Shiloh a hippo.
How adorable (and warm!) is Shi's (presumably) faux fur hooded coat? Can that come in grown up sizes please?

Lanvin Fall/Winter 09

Lanvin's Fall/Winter 09 collection was a stroll through pre-war Paris but embraced a realness that will help Lanvin endure the economic hardship.
Alber Elbaz continues to be a designer who understands women and creates collections more around real life than runway spectacle.
The big season trend- the eighties- was mostly ignored in favor of dramatic draping and neatly cinched waists. This was a collection for the minimalists but the lack of embellishments beyond furs and some metals allowed for a timeless collection that works now as well as it did five years ago and five years from now.
