With this collection Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai moved Vena Cava out of the after-hours Brooklyn club to the more glossy pre-party hour when "It" girls are perfecting their look and the night seems full of possibility.
There is more polish and more color (a splash of orange here and a bit of baby blue there) but subtle acid washing and safety-pin detailing helps the line grow into a fresher aesthetic without alienating their Brooklyn-dwelling fans.
I really loved the high sash banding that helped to define waists and the subtle tribal theme that seemed to run throughout the collection.
But my favorite part of the show was the matte purple lipstick on the models! It is actually flattering on most skin tones! I use a quick dab of purple lip gloss for day, layer it on heavier at night, and am always amazed by how fantastic it looks! You should give purple a try if you haven't already!
Jenni Kayne is, in my opinion, the queen of the cool-girl-basic. Maybe it's because she's a cool girl herself but she always seems to know what the urban girl with effortless style wants to wear and what she needs to fill in the rest of her closet.
That said, there isn't a lot of originality here. The pictures from the presentation could easily be of girls you see on the sartorialist or on the classier of the American Apparel addicts. But I like it anyway!
There were some styling choices for the presentation that I didn't like (some of the shoes are horrendous and some looks are over layered so you can't see some pieces very well) but the individual pieces are beautiful separates!
If you asked Max Azria what his inspirations for this collection may have been he probably wouldn't say, "Balenciaga! Marios Schwab! Blumarine! Rodarte! Balmain!" But he should because their colors, shapes, prints, and style are all over the BCBG runway this season!
He may admit to copying his own designs for Herve Leger especially since the line has become a red carpet staple for young Hollywood starlets and thus lusted after by teenage girls everywhere!
Don't get me wrong...none of this is a bad thing! In fact, the combination is a very good thing for BCBG because it is exactly what I expect of a BCBG collection: pretty, sexy party dresses that are well made but heavily influenced by higher end collections. I can't afford Herve or Balenciaga but I can afford BCBG so this collection works for me!
It's the first review of the Spring/Summer 2010 season! Are you excited? I know I am!
We're starting with the always interesting Helmut Lang. The collection certainly fits into the overall aesthetic of the line but it didn't add anything new to the dialogue.
So what did I like?

I was poking around one of my favorite shopping sites, ModCloth, and saw this vintage inspired number! The Wesleyan Blouse in History Class is a little steep (for ModCloth) at $79.99 but it taps into the current Mad Men craze, and looks like it would have a great fit! I love the color and it is always great to have an interesting piece that no one else will have!
I might have to dip into my next paycheck!
Hey darlings! Just some housekeeping...
You may have noticed that a lot of pictures are missing from nearly all of my posts!
For the first time in the five years that I've had a photobucket account I've exceeded my monthly bandwidth. I don't know how to explain this as I haven't uploaded the amount of media in this past week as I usually do in a month. The only explanation I can think of is that someone has been hotlinking my images. I don't tend to credit individual images (unless I'm specifically asked to)- other than the general credit/disclaimer sidebar on the right side of my blog- but I never, EVER hotlink images. It is rude and can be very expensive for the person who has uploaded them. I encourage you to take pictures from my site but please don't hotlink! Photobucket, flickr, and many other sites offer free memberships. Please download the image, and then upload it to your own account before placing the image on your own blog/at a message board/myspace/etc.
I'm not really sure how to correct the current problem. I deleted all of my .gifs, "icon" images, and ones I've never used but that hasn't made a difference. I guess any of the missing images won't reappear until October 1. Due to this I'm creating a new photobucket account (unless any of you amazing blogger girls know of a better, free service!) that all new images will be hosted at from now but please be patient with the older images!
Also, I received an email from Google today letting me know that it has been a year since I purchased my domain and I'll need to renew it. Should I stick with google (and therefore blogger) or should I make the switch to WordPress? Any thoughts or suggestions?

The amazing Posh gets the cover of October's Elle magazine.
If you're going to put a non-model celebrity on the cover it should be someone like Victoria who lives and breathes fashion and has a strong sense of personal style.
Don't you agree?

Chanel Iman, Sessilee Lopez, Jourdan Dunn, and Arlenis Sosa on the September 09 cover of i-D shot by Emma Summerton.
I like everything about it except the font for pretty young things-did they use the built in paint program on their computers?! Could it be any cheaper looking?

I've packed my bags and I'm ready to go!
I'm heading off to my favorite place- Walt Disney World!
We're staying at Disney's Port Orleans: French Quarter this time around.
It may not be Disney's Beach Club but I've always wanted to stay there so I'm really excited!
I'm planning on bringing my laptop down but Disney charges like $10 a day for Internet access so I won't be blogging until I get back on Tuesday!
Remember to check out my Twitter for mini-updates this week!
You kids be good while I'm gone!
I love Amanda Seyfried. She's always my favorite part of everything she's in!
Here is a quick sneak peak of her upcoming cover for Allure!
And of course a back-stage look at the making of the shoot...
If you haven't seen any of her work you need to check it out! She is hilarious in Mean Girls and has some of the funniest/ most memorable lines in the movie. And she's absolutely heart-wrenching in the latest season of Big Love.

I was really excited to hear that my favorite line, Rodarte, was doing a line for Target because lets face it, when am I ever going to be able to afford Rodarte otherwise?
When I thought about it I was pretty concerned- how on earth could Rodarte translate their very specific, and beautiful, aesthetic at that price point? They can't...can they?
It turns out I was right- but not entirely. Rodarte & Target offered the press a sneak peak today and Paper blogger, Julia Frakes snuck a few cell phone pics for twitter.
I'm pleasantly surprised by what I see!
The colors, shapes, and use of tulle and ribbons keep things as whimsical and pretty as the real line.
Plus, unlike most Target collaborations, the Mulleavy sisters have designed a huge collection and it's all priced at under $80!
Expect to see the collection hit stores in time for the holidays!
UPDATE: Target sweetly asked me to remove all pictures from the Target Long-Lead Editor preview of the Rodarte collaboration. I can't wait to see the full collection and give you guys the proper introduction that it deserves closer to the holidays! Thanks for understanding!

This is just a simple sampling of some photos, people, outfits, things that I love right now.
Yeah Alexa Chung is wearing the same Opening Ceremony dress that Diane Kruger was wearing the other night but I love the skinny, studded belt that she added to it. She makes every thing she wears look fresh!
I love Blair's Gatsby-esque outfit! I'm so excited for Chuck & Blair on Season 3! Time for a Gossip Girl countdown!

Charlize Theron, again?
You know, its her fourth cover and each one gets more and more boring.
I get that she is a beautiful woman with a movie to promote.
But I have a crazy idea!
How about trying to put a stylish woman with a movie to promote on the cover of your fashion magazine?
I mean, Charlize is great. She's a great actress, and a strong woman who overcame adversity. I have nothing against her. I just don't need to read about her for a fourth time in Vogue. Especially as she has a "I'm too good, sincere, and spiritual for that" approach to fashion.
Um. Then why are you doing a photo shoot for Vogue?
Theron has had some great red carpet moments (none of them recently) but its pretty clear they were styled by someone else and that off the red carpet she has little to no interest in personal style. And that's fine!
But when I look at the September issue of a fashion magazine (the biggest issue that sets the tone for the rest of the year) I want to be inspired. I don't find a bland glamour shot all that inspiring.
So who would I have put on the cover if I was Anna Wintour?
Not only does she have a massive movie to promote (Inglorious Basterds) but she is a woman who lives and breathes style. Plus, she's clearly a part of the fashion community-always attending fashion events, sitting in the front rows of shows, and looking amazing even after a 13-hour flight.
I love that she reuses pieces (like her favorite hat) and that she does casual without looking like a mess. I wish I could get the hang of that!
She can do old Hollywood glamour too...
She also supports young designers like a pre-Obama Jason Wu!
I've always loved her but she's really stepped up her style factor for the premieres and press junkets for Inglorious Basterds. I think she's about to become a huge star and Anna Wintour will be scrambling to put her on a cover! After all, Diane's graced Vogue Italia, and German Vogue so an American Vogue cover should only be a heartbeat away!
If you're a woman looking to wear a tuxedo this is how you should do it!
I just love her!
