Vena Cava Spring/Summer 2010

With this collection Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai moved Vena Cava out of the after-hours Brooklyn club to the more glossy pre-party hour when "It" girls are perfecting their look and the night seems full of possibility.
There is more polish and more color (a splash of orange here and a bit of baby blue there) but subtle acid washing and safety-pin detailing helps the line grow into a fresher aesthetic without alienating their Brooklyn-dwelling fans.
I really loved the high sash banding that helped to define waists and the subtle tribal theme that seemed to run throughout the collection.
But my favorite part of the show was the matte purple lipstick on the models! It is actually flattering on most skin tones! I use a quick dab of purple lip gloss for day, layer it on heavier at night, and am always amazed by how fantastic it looks! You should give purple a try if you haven't already!

Jenni Kayne Spring/Summer 2010

Jenni Kayne is, in my opinion, the queen of the cool-girl-basic. Maybe it's because she's a cool girl herself but she always seems to know what the urban girl with effortless style wants to wear and what she needs to fill in the rest of her closet.
That said, there isn't a lot of originality here. The pictures from the presentation could easily be of girls you see on the sartorialist or on the classier of the American Apparel addicts. But I like it anyway!
There were some styling choices for the presentation that I didn't like (some of the shoes are horrendous and some looks are over layered so you can't see some pieces very well) but the individual pieces are beautiful separates!

BCBG MAX AZRIA SPRING/SUMMER 2010

If you asked Max Azria what his inspirations for this collection may have been he probably wouldn't say, "Balenciaga! Marios Schwab! Blumarine! Rodarte! Balmain!" But he should because their colors, shapes, prints, and style are all over the BCBG runway this season!
He may admit to copying his own designs for Herve Leger especially since the line has become a red carpet staple for young Hollywood starlets and thus lusted after by teenage girls everywhere!

Don't get me wrong...none of this is a bad thing! In fact, the combination is a very good thing for BCBG because it is exactly what I expect of a BCBG collection: pretty, sexy party dresses that are well made but heavily influenced by higher end collections. I can't afford Herve or Balenciaga but I can afford BCBG so this collection works for me!

Helmut Lang Spring/Summer 2010

It's the first review of the Spring/Summer 2010 season! Are you excited? I know I am!
We're starting with the always interesting Helmut Lang. The collection certainly fits into the overall aesthetic of the line but it didn't add anything new to the dialogue.
So what did I like?
