A Celebrity Moment: Most Stylish Mom Ever?!

Nicole Richie is, obviously, "the kind of hip mom for whom Barneys would always be stores, not dinosaurs.”

J Brands for Less than $60?????

I've been meaning to talk about my J Brand jeans since I bought them in October but I'm not a very good blogger.
But since one pair of them died a terrible death this week I finally remembered to let you all know about them!
Don't ask about the death of the jeans suffice it to say that it involved a 5-year-old, a pair of scissors, and the fact that I'm a bit slower than I used to be.
Actually, that kind of brings me to the beginning of my story.
TJ Maxx had been generous enough to send me a gift certificate and since I needed jeans appropriate for work in a kindergarten I figured I'd head over and be able to get two pairs of Abercrombie jeans for $40 and that way I wouldn't care if they got painted on or ripped at work.
We all know that shopping at TJ Maxx can be a bit of a labor of love- especially if you're a size 10!
I had found a pair of American Eagles that weren't terrible looking as I shifted through the rack of jeans when suddenly looking up at me was a beautiful pair of J Brands. I thought I must be making a mistake especially when I saw the price tag- $59! No way were these actually a size 10?! THEY WERE! It was a TJ Maxx miracle!
Okay they weren't my usual style- I like skinnies but these were straight legs- but at $59 who could pass them up? And when I found an identical pair in black, well....

The J Brand 805 Mid-Rise Straight Leg jean usually retails for $158. That means that I got two pairs for less than the regular price of one!

I'll be going back tomorrow to look for a pair of replacement J Brands and a holiday party outfit!

Chanel Pre-Fall 2010

Continuing the tradition of extravagant runway shows Karl Lagerfeld staged Chanel's Pre-Fall 2010 on barges with Shanghai as a backdrop!
With the exception of the rice paddy hats (really.) the show was classic Chanel. But I was disappointed with the lack of clear Asian influence. There are so many beautiful Chinese traditions that could have been utilized for the show (from fabric techniques to Chinese models) that were not--Shame on Karl!

(...Not really! Please don't send the Chanel Nazi's after me Uncle Karl!)

Otherwise here are my favorite looks from the collection...

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving my lovely readers!
I hope you all had a great day reflecting on what is really important!
And I'm not talking about 4 AM sales or the YSL Roady!

Today I made whipped sweet potatoes, apple crisp, and whipped cream all from scratch for my favorite people: my family!
How did you spend your Thanksgiving?
More importantly...what are you thankful for this year?

I'm thankful for my mom...
For my family & friends...
For a steady (albeit small) paycheck...
For my warm home...
For memories of my daddy...
For President Obama...
and all of my numerous blessing!

A Celebrity Moment: Saoirse Ronan

Saoirse Ronan looked amazing on the red carpet at the premiere of The Lovely Bones.
Can anyone ID the dress for me? And aren't those shoes just perfect?

I'm So Green!

Everyone's favorite precocious blogger, Tavi, is heading to Tokyo as we speak! She's there to shoot for some Japanese fashion magazines but mostly to attend Comme des Garcons' holiday party on November 27th! The 13-year-old is going to be seated with her idol, Rei Kawakubo!
Between trips to NYFW, LA, and Tokyo she seems to be missing a lot of school, don't you think?

In my world, I've been down & out with a nearly month long sinus infection and stress at my "real" job. I love the kids and the hours and all but I hate that I'm quickly becoming more of a teacher than any kind of writer or stylist. I just don't find any kind of joy in my life anymore and it is making me tired and slow.
My friends, who I haven't seen in weeks, all have full lives with classes, jobs, and lots of social interaction and when I'm free (usually only Saturdays) they have plans with new friends, or are too tired from their weeks to make plans, or just want to be with their boyfriends. I live in the suburbs and can't just drive in at a moment's notice-not like taking the T down the street to meet up at a bar. If I want to hang out it takes planning and I hate that because I'm not a planner and my friends really aren't either. I still talk to them on a regular basis but that isn't the same.
I get invited to parties or events by publicists or other bloggers and I'm too tired or too shy to go. Usually too tired to go home after work, glam up, drive in and hang out with strangers on a week night. Plus, I feel like I'd be a disappointment. Less naturally stylish and pretty than expected. At least here I can hide behind a graphic and the computer.
But what kind of life is that?

I've thought seriously about applying for a post-grad program at London's College of Fashion but where would I get the money? I can't afford to take out any student loans (and I don't believe any company would be stupid enough to give me more...) and I think I'd get scared and come home after a week. I've never been far away from my family for an extended amount of time and I don't think my anxiety will allow it. My friends and family all say, Yeah at least apply! But they know that I won't and even if I did that I wouldn't go. I'm all talk.

I do know that if I don't make a major change soon my soul is going to shrivel up and die. I'll spend the rest of my life as a shell of a person, going through the motions and never having any real experiences.

I believe that telling the universe what you need will help bring it to you. So I've shared all of this and I'm telling the universe that I need a connection. To anything.

A Model Moment: RIP Daul Kim

I'm very sad to tell you that NEXT model Daul Kim was found dead in her Paris apartment today. She was 20-years-old.
The Korean model often wrote about her sense of loneliness on her blog and just yesterday posted a video under the now ominous headline: Say Hi to Forever.
Daul was a favorite of Karl Lagerfeld and I-D. She even graced the cover of Korean Vogue twice!
New York Magazine's The Cut blog has a source who says she committed suicide but the cause of death has not been confirmed.
RIP in Daul.
You will be missed!

Still Obsessed with Rodarte For Target...

...pending the quality of the fabrics of course.
Now that the press has been allowed to release some previews I figure its okay for me to post some too!
