Armani Prive Haute Couture S/S 2010

...Is Vlada a jelly fish? A bubble?
I know the collection was inspired by crescent moon shapes- perhaps she's the reflection of the moon in the water?

Things to Do in Boston this week...

Take a long lunch tomorrow and hit Sephora at the Prudential Center!
Fresh co-founder Lev Glazman will be on hand from 11-6 customizing skin care routines as well as designing a one-of-a-kind fragrance!
Fresh started here in Boston and uses high-end natural ingredients to create their fabulous products. I'm a HUGE fan of their Lotus Eye Gel- I use it every morning to de-puff and add a certain glow. Besides, it smells amazing!

Maybe I'll see you there!

STAND WITH HAITI!

Stand With Haiti

Partners in Health has been on the ground providing medical support to Haiti for the past 20 years.
The earthquake has created a humanitarian disaster- seven days later and there is no end in sight.
Please donate whatever you can to Partners in Health and show that you Stand with Haiti in this horrible crisis!

A Celebrity Moment: Golden Globes Best Dressed!

I'm not sure why I still get excited about award show red carpets. They always end up disappointing and boring me...plus, two hours of Ryan Seacrest? Ugh.
The Golden Globe fashion can be summed up in three words this years: purple, black and boring.
But Chloe Sevigny (who won for her role on Big Love!) and Diane Kruger can always be counted on to be fashionable and interesting!

(Click thumbnails to see full size images)

<span class=<span class=<span class=<span class=
Chloe's Valentino dress looked breathtaking on television. It may be a dress you need to see in movement to really understand just how truly magnificent this dress was! Unfortunately, her dress was accidentally ripped by the usher escorting her to the microphone! Don't worry, Chloe had a beautiful dress ready for the after parties!

<span class= <span class= <span class=
Diane Kruger never disappoints me. I wish I had a picture of the back to show you because the dress is made that much more spectacular when you see the back detailing. The layers of ruffles around the neckline and the waist cinched and gathered with the white pin? Red carpet perfection. I'm amazed that she has landed on so many worst dressed lists for this! She's on trend (pinks and purples were the colors of the night), she's clearly a fashion "It" girl (supporting the beloved, but now defunct, Christian Lacroix gown) and she just plain looks amazing!
I guess if you prefer your starlets to play it safe or sexy then you wouldn't understand this look but I find it super frustrating that many lists are naming (Princess) Olivia Wilde (in Gucci) and Sandra Bullock (in Bottega Veneta) as the best dressed of the night.

Wedding Bells for Marc?

I know that Marc Jacobs' publicist denied that there was a wedding but...

that sure as hell looks like a wedding cake to me.

A Model Moment: The Return of Heather Marks?

A few years ago Heather Marks career couldn't have been hotter she was getting high fashion runway moments and even walked (and looked stunning) at a Victoria's Secret show.
But, seemingly without warning she basically disappeared.
She didn't take an extended break (as far as I know) she just stopped getting high profile work.
She still got quite a bit of catalogue work and could even be found from time to time on the American Eagle website but her former glory seemed to elude her.
Was it because she looked too much like Stam? Did her party girl reputation get in the way of work? Did she gain some inches? What happened?
I don't know. But what I do know is that she's recently been getting some small editorial work and even landed herself the December 09 cover of Mexican Vogue.
Are we witnessing a rebirth?

(By the way I'm trying out a new way of posting pictures-thumbnails to an HQ link- what do you think? Thanks to Kokobombon at The Fashion Spot for this particular set. It is just a test. If it is successful then I'll try to figure out how to do thumbnail/link sets myself!)

Ten Best Red Carpet Looks From The Ten Past Years...

Last night I was thinking about how exactly ten years ago I was a freshman in high school getting ready to host my first "real" party for New Years Eve 99.
I was wearing a glittery black baby tee (a size too small so it showed my belly) with extra low slung jeans and blue sketchers. I was more concerned about a certain boy flirting with my archenemy in my own basement but I do remember flinching for just a second when the clock hit midnight in case Y2K killed us all.
But it didn't and since then the world has seen thongs sticking out of jeans, the return of leggings, JLo's infamous green Versace, H&M arriving stateside, Bjork's swan, the "It" bags and their subsequent waiting lists, and Carrie Bradshaw going from TV character to fashion icon.

In honor of the fashion tragedies and iconic moments here are my favorite ten looks from the past ten years...

Michelle Williams in Vera Wang

Kirsten Dunst in Rochas

<span class=<span class=
Camilla Belle in Jean Paul Gaultier

<span class=
Mary-Kate Olsen in Balenciaga

<span class=
Cameron Diaz in Chanel Haute Couture

Side Note: I'm not a big fan of Cameron Diaz and I'm normally not impressed with her fashion choices but I was OBSESSED the moment she stepped onto the red carpet in this Chanel. I love mini dresses and the nude shoes were a stroke of genius. The button detailing down the back is just beautiful and I love that the lace is sheer in only the right places. This is still my dream red carpet outfit-you know, if I'm ever on one!

<span class=
Chloe Sevigny in YSL

<span class=
Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive

<span class=
Reese Witherspoon in Nina Ricci

<span class=

<span class=
Side Note: I was really hesitant about putting Sarah Jessica Parker's Chanel Haute Couture because I think there is a lot wrong with it. But the thing is this dress is just the epitome of SJP's red carpet style and when she's "on" she's the epitome of what I think everyone wants to see in fashion: A fun, frothy dream.

Best Dressed 2009: Camilla Belle

Camilla Belle may fly under the radar in terms of her acting roles (the expected career push from "Push" never came about this year) but the fashion crowd has always had an eye on her. She may have enraged the teenybopper set after a hook up and break up with Joe Jonas this year but her style choices never faltered.
