Walking around Concord yesterday (it's a favorite pastime of mine) I ambled into the Concord Book Shop thinking I might pick up Sarah Dunant's Sacred Hearts but while browsing the shelves I found a lone copy of the Ruben Toledo edition of Wuthering Heights!
Now, I had read over a year ago that Penguin Classics was planning to re-release classics with covers drawn & designed by Toledo but I thought they were in limited editions and never dreamed of finding one for myself.
Apparently, they're widely available (in stores and online) and I'm just oblivious!
All thought of Sacred Hearts went out the window- I practically lunged at the shelves!
For those of you who don't know- Ruben Toledo is an artist and filmmaker from Cuba. He's married to Isabel Toledo (the fashion designer favored by Michelle Obama) and his work, particularly his fashion illustrations, have appeared in magazines all over the world.
He's kind of a big deal.
I did feel like $16 was a lot to pay for a paperback edition of classic that you can get for like $5 (especially one that I already owned...) but then one look at Toledo's interpretation of Heathcliff on the back cover and I was sold.
It's dark and gloomy and perfect.
So my old ripped, beat up, barely held together copy is in the recycle box and this lovely new one will take its place on my bookshelf!

I'm not really a fan of "What I'm Wearing!" posts.
Don't get me wrong I love seeing what most other bloggers are wearing- I find it very inspiring!
But for myself? I mean, I can style other people but my personal style is really not...I'm just boring. Plus, I have a fairly crappy camera.
However, since I have little to add to the fashion conversation today and since four different people stopped in Harvard Square to say how cute I looked, AND since I just lost 20 pounds I figured what the hell...
I call this my "Sloane does the Hamptons" outfit.
Please be kind. I'm no Erika de Paloi!
black tank, forever 21
sunglasses, marc by marc jacobs
blue stripped button down, aerie
white jean shorts, true religion
"Je ne sais quoi" change purse as clutch, rebecca minkoff
chain & ribbon necklace, loft
leather & rhinestone bracelet, aerie
vintage stag charm bracelet
child's crown thumb ring (worn on ring finger)
Speaking of my brand spanking new coin purse from Rebecca Minkoff I found it yesterday at the most charming boutique while walking in Concord yesterday.
Viola Lovely has two locations- the one in Concord is mostly accessories but they're stunning and include everything from Rebecca Minkoff to Tom Ford to DVF to Havaianas without any of the small, designer boutique snobbery that so often turns me off.
I'm officially in love!
I'll definitely be making lots of trips and if you're in the area you should too!

I just wanted to quickly say thank you to Become.com's style blog for featuring Bostonista as one of their Best of the Web Style blogs a few weeks back! I'm honored to be in such great company!
Another big thanks to Shiseido for sending me their limited edition Holiday collection palette. The colors are beautiful for fall/winter and I know I'll feel glamorous anytime I whip out the glossy compact!
Also, yet another new header, this time featuring some good old Madonna wisdom!
Better than the last one, yes?

I can't decide if the Oil & Water editorial from Vogue Italia by Steven Miesel is horrible, offensive, and disgusting or a beautiful, artistic way of bringing the utter devastation to the masses...
(Click the thumbnails for a better look)
Kristen McMenamy is the only girl who could even attempt to pull this off.
This month also marks Kate Moss's 30th appearance on the cover of British Vogue.
My favorite model Jessica Stam recently stepped into a designing role at RACHEL Rachel Roy. You can read all about it in this month's Marie Claire (it has MK on the cover!) and check out the collection at Macys!
And finally the totally freaky Vogue Paris Collections Fall/Winter 2010 edition that features Freja...and only Freja! I know everyone loves her but that is definitely an overdose!

You probably know that my obsession with Kate Lanphear runs pretty deep.
I mean, she has one of my dream jobs (Style Director at Elle magazine) and her style is INSANE.
So I was super excited that she agreed to pose for Eddie Borgo's fall 2010 campaign.
She's so badass and the pics make it obvious why Eddie is a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund nominee for jewelry design!
(Thanks to Fashionologie for the pics!)
As you can see I've put up a new header.
I did it really fast and I'm not sure that I like it but I felt like I needed a change.
I'm sure you've noticed a lack of posts...I feel like I've done this type of note to you guys so many times...but I do have a chronic health condition and unfortunately have been very, very sick for the past month. I've barely seen my friends, let alone kept up with the fashion world- I've been too lethargic and stuck on the couch watching bad TV.
You'd think this would be the perfect situation for blogging but you'd be wrong- I get too upset when I don't have the energy to really put passion and focus into it.
So I thought I'd give you an update on where I stand!
Tomorrow night I'm "checking into" Beth Israel to get ready for lots of tests & stuff on Thursday.
So any prayers/positive energy/sweet thoughts you send my way will be much appreciated!
Hopefully, by the time NY Fashion Week rolls around I'll be up to my usual snarky play-by-plays, and in depth reviews of the shows- those are what I most enjoy writing so I'm looking forward to that!
On an unrelated note- The Rachel Zoe Project premiered tonight and can I just say that the show is so much better without that brat Taylor Jacobson? I could never really watch it before because I'd get too upset about that ungrateful, bitch having my dream job and having the audacity to complain about it. I know there are two sides to every story, and obviously the show has edited her in a certain light for a few years now which kind of perfectly sets her up as the bad guy thief but I don't think the representation was all that far-fetched.
Are you guys pro-Taylor or do you think as highly of her as I do?

I've been wanting to feel more connected to the fashion blogging community because I do find a lot of inspiration in what my peers are doing and want to become better friends with them!
I joined the Independent Fashion Bloggers Network when I started blogging and while I read their advice articles fairly regularly I've never really participated in the community.
I'm trying to change that and one way I can think of is participating in IFB's weekly Links A La Mode round up.
Couture Today: An Exploration
Edited by: Ann Colville Somma of Holier than Now
Couture: clothes painstakingly custom-made from the finest materials; alternatively, something Juicy - or even Filthy. It's hard not to chafe at the degradation of the term, which is technically reserved for members of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture (houses that create made-to-order pieces for private clients, amongst other criteria). Looking at creations recently sent down the runways, it's sad to think artisanal techniques like hand beading may not survive in a world of rhinestoned terry sweatsuits.
But in fact, the handmade movement is ever gaining steam with the support of many bloggers. "Couture" may be associated with impossibly high prices, but in your own hands it's an affordable way to obtain one-of-a-kind style. This week, review Couture Week round ups from The Well-Appointed Catwalk, La Chanelfile and more - then become your own private client, with tips from Fashion Butter, The Fashion Planner, and Twitch Vintage.
