Chanel Soho Party

Lets take a break from the fashion week shows and talk about the fashion week parties!
Chanel celebrated the re-opening of their Soho boutique last night and all of my favorite girls turned up looking amazing!
All wearing Chanel...of course!

<span class=
Leighton Meester looking very Blair! Except...a little too tan don't you think?

<span class=
Chanel Iman being adorable and showing off her Chanel bag. I would too if I had one!

<span class=
Fashion's favorite girl Diane Kruger was the risk taker of the night (as usual) and pulled it off wonderfully!

And my favorite look of the night...
<span class=
Lily Donaldson doing her best model-off-duty style. She's just so cool!

NYFW SS 2011- The Rest of Day 1

Here are some of the highlights from the rest of Day 1 at NYFW...
(Click the thumbnails for a bigger look!)

Richard Chai Love
<span class= <span class=
I don't see myself walking down the street in those harem pants, do you?

Jen Kao
<span class=
Very pretty skirts and jackets. Plus the runway itself was beautiful.

Nicholas K was one of my favorite shows of the day...
<span class= <span class= <span class=
It is very wearable which I love. Yeah it is kinda an alexander wang/rag & bone knock off but it still looks fresh thanks to the styling. I don't even normally like 90s grunge style!

Christian Siriano RTW S/S 2011

Christian Siriano's collection wasn't exactly a hot tranny mess (his own words!) but the Project Runway winner has so much potential that he's wasting and coasting on his celebrity.
Celebrities will definitely love this line for red carpets and when he focused on a white, safari inspiration he found a certain wearability.
Still, he seems to be missing his own original point of view and is very referential to past great designers. Maybe that isn't a bad thing but it would be nice to see something new from him.

<span class=
Lots of beautiful prints and long flowy dresses seems to be a trend this season! At least Siriano threw in some interesting shapes and colors!

<span class=

And my favorite looks from the collection-white with brown belts. Classic!
<span class=

He is the king of the ruffle so of course there was the obligatory giant ball gown...
<span class=
So overall, a pretty but uneven collection.

Ruffian RTW S/S 2011

I've always loved Ruffian- their clothes always just look so luxurious!
This season was no different as Ruffian grew up into a trendy, but very polished, girl!
It is all very pretty especially if you like Mad Men- because as I was going through the slides all I could think was, "If Betty Draper went military."
The only stumble were the gold lame (I think they were made of lame anyway-its hard to tell in pictures) pieces at the end.

<span class=
Classic white shirts and cinched waists with interesting twists- army green, bright belts, ruffles, buttons and pleats!

<span class=
Wide leg white pants for suits with brightly colored belts and oversize buttons.

<span class=

And finally the disastrous gold. What were they thinking?!
<span class=

Vena Cava S/S 2011

I'm usually a big fan of Vena Cava's cool girl esthetic.
This time around it feels a lot more like casual, neutral pieces that can be mixed and matched.
I think they'd work in a professional setting or a fun weekend lunch but nothing new and exciting.

<span class=
Loose and flowy with black platforms.

<span class=
Lots of easy layering with blazers and loose sweaters.

<span class=
A lot of mix and match patterns with pops of color and lots of skin!

<span class=
And finally long skirts with cinched waists with a modern take on a turban-like headband.

Are the Dior ads offensive?

<span class=

The ads for Dior's Shanghai collection (titled Shanghai Dreamers) have been released and they're causing a bit of a stir.
Both Jezebel and Shanghaiist have pointed out that while the (unsmiling) white models are clad in the collection the Chinese models have been cloned- in smiling, happy conformity around them.
The photographs are beautiful but left me with a lot of uncomfortable questions.
Is it a commentary on the oppression of communism? And if it is- why are the models who stand out primarily Caucasian? Wouldn't it be better to feature a Chinese model standing out in the couture? Are the "Shanghai Dreamers" Chinese women dreaming of standing out-by being white?
Or are we reading too much into it? Are we too sensitive? Should we just take the "Shanghai Dreamers" photographs as beautiful and leave it at that?

2010 Emmy Red Carpet Moments

Anna Paquin in Alexander McQueen Emmy Red Carpet
While Claire and Nina stole my heart there were some other great red carpet looks last night at the 2010 Emmy Awards.

A Celebrity Moment: Emmy's 2010 Best Dressed!

Maybe I'm just going through a light and glitter phase but all that drooled over navy last night just didn't do it for me!
My very best dressed of the night was a tie between two surprising starlets:

<span class=
Claire Danes glittered and glowed in a stunning Armani Prive
while The Vampire Dairies (and former Degrassi kid) Nina Dobrev was breathtaking in
Zuhair Murad.
<span class=

Nina only had a minor involvement in the show (she danced in the opening number) but I think her red carpet appearance has launched her in a way her TV show hasn't been able to.

Claire Dane's won for her portrayal of Temple Grandin but as you probably know she isn't someone I normally think of as stylish.

They both really surprised me and are my definite picks for the night's best dressed.
Who were your favorites?

A Celebrity Moment: Clemence Poesy on the set of Gossip Girl

The past few weeks I've been obsessed with seeing what Clemence Poesy has been wearing every day on the set of Gossip Girl.
Here are some of the highlights...

<span class=
<span class=
<span class=
<span class=
<span class=
<span class=
Isn't her hair amazing?!
I know her character is there to throw a wrench in all of Blair's plans but I'm so excited to see Clemence on the new season!

Fashionable Reads...

Walking around Concord yesterday (it's a favorite pastime of mine) I ambled into the Concord Book Shop thinking I might pick up Sarah Dunant's Sacred Hearts but while browsing the shelves I found a lone copy of the Ruben Toledo edition of Wuthering Heights!
Now, I had read over a year ago that Penguin Classics was planning to re-release classics with covers drawn & designed by Toledo but I thought they were in limited editions and never dreamed of finding one for myself.
Apparently, they're widely available (in stores and online) and I'm just oblivious!
All thought of Sacred Hearts went out the window- I practically lunged at the shelves!
For those of you who don't know- Ruben Toledo is an artist and filmmaker from Cuba. He's married to Isabel Toledo (the fashion designer favored by Michelle Obama) and his work, particularly his fashion illustrations, have appeared in magazines all over the world.
He's kind of a big deal.
I did feel like $16 was a lot to pay for a paperback edition of classic that you can get for like $5 (especially one that I already owned...) but then one look at Toledo's interpretation of Heathcliff on the back cover and I was sold.

It's dark and gloomy and perfect.
So my old ripped, beat up, barely held together copy is in the recycle box and this lovely new one will take its place on my bookshelf!

Events in Boston: US Weekly Party!

My friends and I will be there & I hope you will too!

Mindless Self Indulgence

I'm not really a fan of "What I'm Wearing!" posts.
Don't get me wrong I love seeing what most other bloggers are wearing- I find it very inspiring!
But for myself? I mean, I can style other people but my personal style is really not...I'm just boring. Plus, I have a fairly crappy camera.
However, since I have little to add to the fashion conversation today and since four different people stopped in Harvard Square to say how cute I looked, AND since I just lost 20 pounds I figured what the hell...
I call this my "Sloane does the Hamptons" outfit.

Please be kind. I'm no Erika de Paloi!

<span class=

black tank, forever 21
blue stripped button down, aerie
white jean shorts, true religion
"Je ne sais quoi" change purse as clutch, rebecca minkoff
chain & ribbon necklace, loft
leather & rhinestone bracelet, aerie
vintage stag charm bracelet
child's crown thumb ring (worn on ring finger)

Speaking of my brand spanking new coin purse from Rebecca Minkoff I found it yesterday at the most charming boutique while walking in Concord yesterday.
Viola Lovely has two locations- the one in Concord is mostly accessories but they're stunning and include everything from Rebecca Minkoff to Tom Ford to DVF to Havaianas without any of the small, designer boutique snobbery that so often turns me off.
I'm officially in love!
I'll definitely be making lots of trips and if you're in the area you should too!

Quick Note of Thanks!

I just wanted to quickly say thank you to Become.com's style blog for featuring Bostonista as one of their Best of the Web Style blogs a few weeks back! I'm honored to be in such great company!
Another big thanks to Shiseido for sending me their limited edition Holiday collection palette. The colors are beautiful for fall/winter and I know I'll feel glamorous anytime I whip out the glossy compact!
Also, yet another new header, this time featuring some good old Madonna wisdom!
Better than the last one, yes?
