Whats In My Makeup Bag!

Checking out the contests of another girl's purse has been quite the craze lately. From magazine features of what celebs stuff into their designer bags to the ever popular Flickr group What's in Your Bag? it seems we all want to know what other women find essential in their daily lives.

But it turns out the contents of my Minkoff are pretty boring.
Lip gloss, charlie card, a change purse, wallet, a mini first aid kit, and my blackberry.

So I thought instead I'd show you the current contents of my makeup bag.
Especially since I'm a beauty product addict!

<span class=

Sorry for the crappy picture quality- I'm pretty sure I'm the only blogger left on the planet without a DSLR!

Lets go clockwise shall we?

My metallic blue cosmetics bag is a few years old from the Marc Jacobs store on Newbury St.

So what is currently on your face (and in your makeup bag)?

Style vs. Comfort: My Winter Woes...

Well, guys, this winter has officially beaten me down.
I'm blue, cold, and perpetually grumpy.
I stopped even attempting to look cute and fashionable weeks ago.
You would have too if you worked with little kids in six feet of snow!

I've been relying on my classic tall Uggs (which are bad enough) since December but even with multiple coats of waterproofing the snow has proved to be too much! More than 10 minutes and my socks are soaked and I can't feel my toes!

So even though it breaks my heart to spend money on something so terribly unstylish I'm starting to think that I need a pair of ducky boots. Completely utilitarian, sturdy, sensible waterproof duck boots.

I've found two pairs that don't seem too offensive and that I know will make climbing over all these snowbanks slightly easier!

The first comes from Timberland- a brand I have never even considered in regards to my own footwear- but they look pretty warm!

<span class=

And at least my omni-present skinny jeans will fit nicely under them.
The Timberland Earthkeepers Mount Holly Tall Lace Duck boot (phew that's a mouthful!) are only $149.95 on Endless. Unfortunately, they don't have them in my size!

The Sorel Cumberland Snowboot isn't as tall as the Timberlands but they are significantly less money and come in a "pretty" denim color.

<span class=

The thing is as much as I know that I NEED this sort of boot I don't want them which makes it so much harder to open up my wallet!

There are plenty of boots that I do want but none of them are exactly snow friendly.

For example, the beautiful Loeffler Randall Fifi boot!
<span class=
Leopard print, kitten heel, bootie!
So pretty! So classic! They could be worn with anything!
They are also completely impractical for life in Boston right now.
I've been lusting after them since I tried them on at dress in October.

Or I could go for a horrendously tacky, but fairly trendy, pair of high heeled, sheep skin lined "utilitarian" boots.
<span class=

<span class=

Can you imagine me trying to walk to dinner with my friends in those?
Hilarity would be sure to ensue!

But finally my long term lust item (I've been scoping them out for two winters now) would have to be flat, dark chocolate brown, over the knee boots! Oh, how I crave them! Dream of them! But they won't be wearable until most of this snow melts and since that won't happen until...what? May at this rate...they too don't seem like more reasonable or more important purchases the way that duck boots do right now.

But maybe I can find some cash for say, Frye's Sarah Over-the-Knee boot or their Jane Tall boot!

<span class=
<span class=
They both have slight heels but nothing unmanageable. And they certainly fit my other qualifications!

So what do you do for the winter?
Do you go for style or are you like me, just trying to get through it?

Babes in Russh

I realize that every fashion blogger on the planet has posted this Russh editorial by now but I love it so much I had to share it too!
Besides featuring some of my favorite girls it has a dreamy, summer vibe that, trapped under all this snow, I'm craving!
At least January is finally over!
The Virgin Suicides inspired shoot was styled by Stevie Dance.

A Model Moment: Natasha Poly Takes the Bus

<span class=

I saw this cell phone picture on The Fashion Spot and thought it was kinda cool that even a supermodel takes the bus.
Then I thought, "I'd kill to have such long legs!"

A Celebrity Moment: Mila Kunis at the SAG Awards

<span class=

The only dress that mattered at the SAG Awards was the stunning Alexander McQueen on Mila Kunis belted with lucite.
I swooned.

Best Dressed at the Golden Globes 2011

I thought I would be hugely disappointed by Golden Globe fashion last night but surprisingly I didn't think it was all that disastrous.
I have a couple of obvious best dressed choices and a couple that I know ended up on other worst dressed lists but hey I liked them!
<span class=
Anne Hathaway was her usual radiant self in Armani Prive.
I know she completely relies on Rachel Zoe so it isn't technically "personal" style but she always looks so beautiful and so perfect for every event I can't help but adore her style!
Long sleeves, strong shoulders, backless- she followed every trend and still managed to be the best dressed of the night!

<span class=
I know this will be a controversial choice. OK! Julianne didn't really pull it off but at least she had the courage to try! The half-necklace collar, the draping, the waist, the shocking pink color it is a BEAUTIFUL dress. I think part of the problem is not being able to see it in motion because when I saw her on the red carpet it moved and flowed BEAUTIFULLY! I just wish someone had steamed it beforehand- what is with all of those crazy wrinkles?!

<span class=
Kind of obsessed with this Calvin Klein on Claire Danes. Simple, elegant, sexy- what more could you ask for? I love the wonder woman-esque cuff since it adds a bit of a tougher personality to the look!

<span class=
OK I know it might be a little too obviously sexy. But just the construction alone of this dress is mind boggling since even the, er, bodice, portion was made entirely of weaved fringe. I appreciate a well made dress. Plus, if I had January Jones' body I'd wear it too!
I thought she looked like a true bombshell in this Versace.
If you've got it sometimes its okay to flaunt it.

<span class=
14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld looked age-appropriate and stylish rather than living out a prom princess fantasy like some girls *ahem* Carrie Underwood and Lea Michelle!
How many tweens do you know would choose the under the radar but super cool Prabel Gurung for their first big Hollywood night? I hope this is the first of many big red carpet moments for Hailee because I can't wait to see her style evolve!

And finally my personal favorite of the evening...
<span class=
Leighton Meester in Louis Vuitton!
I don't understand why so many people hated this look so much! I thought she looked beautiful! The fabric is amazing but I especially adored the sheer sleeves and the subtle print! I don't care what anyone else says- it was FABULOUS!

Celine Pre-Fall 2011

I'm not usually a huge Celine fan- even though I like Phoebe Philo- but something about this collection really speaks to me right now.
While I'm never a fan of iridescent pants- seriously, why even attempt something so heinous?- the mere construction of the pieces is enough to make me swoon.
Philo has a knack for beautiful tailoring and infusing even the most boyish of looks with playful femininity.
<span class=
<span class=
<span class=
<span class=
Maybe its because of how stalled I've felt lately but there is something about this wearable collection that feels so grown up and right the moment.
My favorite piece of the whole collection?
The silky, slouchy black jumpsuit that Phoebe herself wore last month when she picked up the British Fashion Council award for Designer of the Year.

A Celebrity Moment: Brittany Snow in French Connection

Brittany Snow proved winter white works the other night at Audi's pre-Golden Globes party.
The best part? She's wearing a super affordable dress by French Connection!

<span class=

The beautifully-draped dress with heavily embellished shoulders is on sale at French Connection- and can be yours for only $125!

I love how Brittany styled it- little to no jewelry, nude platforms, and a simple chignon! The whole look was just effortless!

Her other accessory? Zac Effron. It seemed like they were on a date but weren't they spotted just the other night with his ex Vanessa Hudgens? Aren't Vanessa and Brittany supposed to be friends? I just found it interesting...
