April 2011 Style

My April Obsessions...

Lavender Nails:
Like everyone else right now I'm addicted to lavender nail polish. I'd been trying to get my hands on Essie's much coveted Liliacism (as seen below) but it seems to be sold out everywhere!
&&<span class=
Lilacism is a sheer, almost white purple while the new Nice is Nice from Essie's French Affair collection is a deeper purple with undertones of gray. I finally found Nice is Nice at a local Target today and it looks exactly on trend once its applied!

White Lace Mini-Dresses:
Ever since I saw MK in this white, lace dress at the premiere of New York Minute in 2004 I've been in love with short, white lace dresses.
&&&<span class=
A few months after the premiere both girls rocked white lace dress by Magda Berliner and my love was cemented.
&&&<span class=
Until recently I never felt thin enough to actually try the look out- lets face it sheer tight white is not exactly an easy look to wear. But this spring and summer I'm throwing caution to the wind and hunting for the ultimate white lace dress. Perhaps something along the lines of this sweet little number...

Hot Pink Lips:
Classic red lips have never really worked on me. I'm pale, blonde and doll faced so you'd think they'd work on me in a Scarlett Johansson sort of bombshell way but, for whatever reason, they just don't.
But how else to get a powerful pout?
I'm turning to hot pink lipstick.
&<span class=
I'd read that both Kate and Alexis were wearing Clarin's Hot Pink Joli Rouge lipstick so I ran out to get it. I ended up with two colors of La Rouge Parisian Pink and Hot Pink. While both of them are certainly pretty neither achieved the look I was going for so my search continues!
Does anyone have any hot pink suggestions?

Carine Roitfeld and Barneys New York!

After months of speculation we finally know what Carine Roitfeld's post-Paris Vogue first step will be!
She's signed on as Barneys guest editor and stylist for A/W 2011/2012!

As far as I can tell she's basically free-lancing (something she wasn't really allowed to do at Paris Vogue) which means she'll be able to do this as well as any other project she chooses.

But what does this job entail?
She'll be styling and editing Barney's fall advertising campaign, catalogue, and email newsletters along with being in charge of the store's infamous Madison Avenue window displays! On the retail side, it seems Ms. Roitfeld will also be advising Barneys buyers or at least be their muse for the direction of what they'll be carrying for the season.
Plus, there may be a short film to coincide with the fall campaign

Carine told WWD that this opportunity is a dream come true, "For me, Barneys has always been the biggest name in luxury department stores, so to be able to participate in this project with them, and be visible during the next fashion week in New York, is my dream come true. To a French girl, it’s a big, big dream.”

Alexander McQueen Fall 2011

It has been just over a year since Alexander McQueen's suicide.
I still find it hard to believe.
His friend and protege, Sarah Burton has since taken over the helm at McQueen and with her third collection she has successfully fused her point of view with Lee's vision. She's carrying on with such dignity!
Perhaps this season is a little more light hearted than he would have done- I feel that he seemed much more interested in the sinister aspects of life although always with a twist of dark humor.
Of course, we'll never know where he would have taken his line or where his genius would have led him.
But I think he would have been proud of this collection.

It was a madcap line of renaissance, dominatrix Eskimos and I loved it!
Inspired by the idea of an ice queen Burton used a limited color scheme with a mix of velvets, silks, and organzas. The flowing femininity was kept in check with flairs of fetishism and strong shapes. The fur detailing and metal headpieces added a touch of glamour.
All in all I think it was everything you want out of a winter collection!
