Events in Boston: Clarins Media Preview

(Clarin's Christopher Truffa, shows off the latest eye colors)

Last week, I was invited to a media preview of Clarin's latest skincare and beauty offerings at Bloomingdales Chestnut Hill.

Our very own Bloomies is home to one of Clarin's magnificent spas, and it's the only one in the country with both skincare and body treatments available.

Back during NYFW I stopped by Clarin's Beauty Lounge at the Empire Hotel and was able to indulge in a little pampering. I was also introduced to their most popular product around the world, Beauty Flash Balm. It was life changing. I've been using it twice a day ever since!
They also introduced us to the Courtin-Clarins girl's new "Beauty Flash Blog", an amazing beauty resource for women around the world!

Back at Chestnut Hill, Clarin's head makeup artist, Christopher Truffa, explained the body's lymphatic system and its importance in maintaining youthful looking, healthy skin. He also showed us the proper way to apply skincare products in order to encourage the lymphatic system to better do its job! For example, take some of your Beauty Flash Balm, warm it up on your palms, and then apply by patting it on skin in a lifting, upward motion. You'll immediately feel, and look, more awake!

Clarin's believes in using products as a "lighting director" for women. Their "Instant Light Brush On Perfector" uses different colors of light reflectors to to illuminate skin so it camouflages imperfections and looks great in any light environment.  Brushing it on the spots where light hits your face, like your brow's arch, draws the eye to your best spots and away from blemishes.
Next, Christopher showed us the best way to create the elusive, perfect smoky eye for evening. He made it look so effortless! Unfortunately, I don't think I have a steady enough hand to re-create it on myself but their new 3-Dot Eyeliner is made to be so easy that maybe even I could make a straight line for once!
Finally, they gave us all a giant bag full of Clarin's best goodies! It's only been a few days but already my skin is feeling, and looking, so much better!

Thank you to Christopher, Nassima and Ty for the wonderful evening!

Evo Hair Care Review

Back in August, I received an awesome surprise from Evo, an Australian haircare line that recently launched here in the US.
They had heard all about my frizzy problems and sent their line, The Therapist, as well as some smoothing extras to help.
Now that I've been using their products pretty much exclusively for the past two months, I thought it was time to share my Evo experiences with you.

I'm so excited to announce my latest give-a-way with InPink Jewelry!

What I love about InPink is that they have great pieces ranging from uber-trendy to classic at amazing price points. Unlike other inexpensive jewelry sites, InPink's products are remarkably substantial and well made so they never look or feel cheap.
I got so many compliments on their gray "Druzy Stone Layered Necklace" during Fashion's Night Out and at MBFW!

Candy Colored Jackets

One of the best (and worst) things about fashion week is that you get to see what will be the big trends months in advance.
The downside is when you love a trend so much that you want it right away and these pieces wont be in stores until February at the earliest!

This fall, my big obsession for Spring 2013 comes in the form of bright, candy colored jackets.
They were all over the New York runways and I expect they'll make a splash during the rest of fashion month too!
At least with the cooling temperatures this is one trend I'll be able to get a jumpstart on!

(From Left: Rag & Bone SS 2013, 3.1 Phillip Lim SS 2013 From Top Right:Jenni Kayne SS 2013, Rebecca Minkoff SS 2013)

I'm seriously craving that magenta motorcycle jacket from 3.1 Phillip Lim but even when it hits stores I'm sure it will be a little bit out of my price range.

But, happily, there are many bright coats ready to be snapped up already!

I think the medium weight of BB Dakota's Rynn coat is perfect for the transitional weather of a New England fall while E&J's Sue Blazer is wool so you'll look stylish and keep warm in the office all winter. I love yellows in the winter because it brings the warmth of sunshine to a snowy day! Am I cheesy or what? But thats why I love the old Hollywood glamour of the heavy, fur collared coat from Dahlia.

What do you think of bold colors for fall and winter? Will you be wearing them now or waiting until spring to bloom in brights?

Farah Angsana SS 2013

Inspired by a trip to Brazil, Farah Angsana sent one beautiful look after another down the runway on Monday for her Glamazon woman.

This was a very sexy, colorful collection but would we expect any less from Brazil?
From the show notes, it seems that Ms. Angsana has been on a journey of self discovery recently and while this was a gorgeous showing it wasn't always able to tell the whole story.
But, sometimes, a story doesn't have a clear beginning or end and isn't any less interesting for it.

Still, Angsana is at her best when she embraces her most elegant side and creates simple, glowing silhouettes.  After all, I love color but sometimes you CAN have too much of a good thing...
I think we can expect to see many Farah gowns on the red carpet.

If Farah and Rafael are any indication we'll all be wearing heavy, gem-laden dresses and hard metal accessories come spring!

Thank you to Farah Angsana, and HvM Communications!

Emerson SS 2013

It's always inspiring when a local makes it big on a national stage, isn't it?
So, having Boston-based designer Jackie Fraser-Swan show her line, Emerson, for the third time at New York Fashion Week was extra exciting for me!

Hands down, Emerson wins for best runway soundtrack of the week. I was dancing in my seat!
It fit well with the high school nostalgia mood of the collection which ended with a not so subtle nod to the classic teenage flick, Carrie.

But, like the best horror movies, this collection was laced with an aura of playfulness and fun.

Leather Peter Pan collars and peplum waists added some adult edge to the knee socks and letter jackets.

I loved that the leather skirts were somehow able to fall in a flirty less structured way adding a hint of girlishness to the masculine material. Or maybe they just appeared to be leather? Looking closer they have a bit of a sheer quality about them...

There were a couple of moments during the show that felt a bit disjointed; As if the pieces belonged to a different collection. But, for the most part, Jackie's masterful use of prints and color kept the good-girl-gone-bad vibe running full throttle!

I was honored to be invited to the show and to be able to support a Boston designer.
I think Jackie's pretty, easy to wear designs are going to make this a very popular collection when it hits stores in March. Emerson is definitely on my "One to Watch" list!

Thanks to Jackie Fraser-Swan, People's Revolution, Liz Sweeney and the entire Emerson team!

Exclusive: Backstage at Emerson SS 2013

Sunday night I was lucky enough to go backstage at Emerson's SS 2013 show at Lincoln Center.
My friend, designer Sophie Hughes, provided jewelry for the collection so Scorpion Disco and I headed backstage for a sneak peek!

(Models being interviewed by FashionTV)
My model obsessed self was crazy excited.
But I was disappointed to learn that they only have porta-potties  for the models back there.
Not so glamorous!

Aren't the braids great?
Also, I'll be trying to recreate these burgundy smokey eyes for the next 8 months.

Here I am, backstage, grinning like a loon!
Like my new DVF dress? I need to get it tailored before I wear it again.
