Scan Me

(A Me-Ality Station)

Back in early December, I was invited to try out the much talked about Me-Ality Scan at Natick Mall.
I have to admit that I was a little bit intimidated by the machine in the middle of the mall since it is a bit reminiscent to those airport body scanners.

But, since you get a detailed description of your best fit bets, its a lot more fun than going through security!

The experience itself is super easy (and if you're shy don't worry! The 3D image doesn't show up on a screen so no one sees your shape.) you remove any metal that you might be wearing and then step into the scanner fully clothed. You do need to stand super still for an accurate reading. (I needed to be scanned twice because it couldn't get a reading the first time.) The "wand" rotates around your body using radio signals that bounce off the water in your skin and in about 15 seconds has precise measurements.

I was really impressed with the results that I printed out at the station. I thought it would just tell me my size in brands or various stores in the mall but it actually makes specific suggestions and lets you know where the style is available. For example, Joe's Honey Jeans in size 29 is apparently my perfect jean.

(My #1 best bet for jeans!)

Me-Ality is free for shoppers because brands and stores pay to be included in the results. This is both good and bad, in my opinion, because while it takes the guesswork and frustration out of trying on clothes at the mall, it also means that some of your favorite brands and stores may not be included. The scan also creates an online profile so you can access your results on the Me-Ality website. These are constantly updated with newly added merchandise and brands so you'll be able to get new recommendations for as long as your body shape stays the same.

Personally, I loved getting my results directly at the mall. I was able to email them to myself and print them out. This first set of recommendations had a lot of "ideal fit" options in nearly every category for me. I'm more disappointed with my online options today since most of the results seem to be in the middle of the "ideal" fit bar. I still have my email recommendations from the day I was scanned though and will be using them as a guide for future shopping especially for jeans!

In November, Me-Ality launched a partnership with Nordstrom called, "Sized Just For You". Every person scanned automatically receives an email with with their best fits from brands available at Nordstrom

Me-Ality has four locations in the Boston area including Solomon Pond Mall, Northshore Mall, South Shore Plaza and Natick Collection. There is also one at the Cape Cod Mall in Hyannis.
If you've seen the stations while shopping I highly recommend that you take the time to try it out. It's free and takes only a few minutes- far superior to a frustrating hour in a dressing room!

Karlie Chop!

Have you guys seen Karlie Kloss's shaggy new hair do?
The supermodel officially debuted it at  backstage at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show but she actually took the leap for Vogue

I wouldn't do it for anyone but Anna either!

Gift Guide of Last Minute Stocking Stuffers!

Who says that stockings have to be filled with candy?
I'd much rather have Santa stuff my stocking with one (or all) of these stylish gifts!

Last Minute Stocking Stuffers
From Top: Coach Legacy Leather Large Wristlet, April/May Noa Sequin Sweatshirt, DANNIJO Monaco Earrings, Kate Spade Fingerless Gloves, Hoot & Howl Ear buds, Deborah Lippmann Some Enchanted Evening Nail Polish, Arianna Spa Collection Ultra Exfoliating Body Treatment, BLO Gift Card

Nail polish, gloves and ear buds are probably Stocking staples but why not add some glitz with DANNIJO's Monaco earrings? They come in greens, black and white, and pinks so Santa can find the perfect pair for every woman.
Coach's Legacy line has restored a level of fashion cred to the suburban favorite, and it's hard not to lust after their soft leather confections like the Large Leather Wristlet.
Don't they look better than peppermint candy?

For the beauty addicted on your list, rush over to Arianna's new location on Tremont St to pick up skincare must-haves like their Ultra Exfoliating Body Treatment and Ultra Rich Hydrating Body Butter.  The modern woman loves a quick blowout so get her a gift card to BLO Dry Bar so she can look beautiful on the go! With locations all over North America (not to mention right in the South End!) she'll be able to take advantage wherever her travels lead her!

I hope you're closer to being finished with your holiday shopping than I am!

A Celebrity Moment: Mommy & Me Fashion

Mini-skirts? Check! Dramatically draped scarves? Check!
 Bad ass leather jackets? Check!
We're ready for school, Honor Warren!

As a former assistant kindergarten teacher, I just want to send my love and prayers to the families of Newtown, CT after today's senseless and horrific violence. God bless.

Gift Guide: Boys! Boys! Boys!

Why are guys so hard to shop for? It seems like between gadgets, ties, and violent blu-rays you'd be able to easily find them something but I always end up putting off their gifts until the very last minute!

In an effort to be more thoughtful with my manly presents this year I put together this handy guide to things guys enjoy to cross reference with my shopping list.

Bostonista Gift Guide: For The Guys!

Is there anything sexier than a man with a flask? Maybe a man with a moustache flask! Okay, maybe not, but its a fun gift sure to make your man smile. I know my brother will be laughing his ass off thanks to the Unrated Ted blu-ray I picked up for him. If you're a little more practical, may I suggest Ted Baker's "The City" quilted jacket? It's the perfect weight for this weird Boston weather. As much as I love designer handbags, it would be kind of nice to just slip all my cards into my phone case and go so I know that any guy on your list will appreciate being able to consolidate his wallet with Hex's iPhone Case.

Bostonista Gift Guide: BFFs

The clock's ticking down to Christmas and I know how hard it is to shop for your stylish best friend (or even your annoying little sister) so I put together this handy dandy shopping guide to give you a little push in the right direction!

For the BFF

Your In-The-Know coworker will appreciate Karl Lagerfeld's Limited Edition palette with Shu Uemura while your best friend will love the rose gold Alexandria ring from Karen London.
You know how your sister's phone is always out of juice? Well, with Triple C's portable iPhone Charger, you'll always be able to reach her!

Of course, I'd almost always rather grab a coffee and chat with my besties so if you're running low on funds why not treat her with some spa treatments, a Ryan Gosling flick, and some cocktails in the comfort of your own living room?

Try out this yummy (and Bostonista approved) Candy Cane Cooler from Food Network for entertaining the girls this holiday season!

Ingredients

For Infusion:

  • 2 cups fresh mint leaves, de-stemmed
  • 1 bottle quality vodka

Directions

Thoroughly wash mint leaves and place in a decanter or jar. Empty vodka into container and muddle slightly to release the essential oils. Store in a cool, dark place for at least 3 days - longer if you want a stronger taste.

For cocktail:

  • 1 tbs. crushed candy cane or peppermint candy
  • 1 1/2 oz. mint-infused vodka
  • 1/2 oz. B&B (Benedictine and brandy)
  • 1/2 oz. half-and-half
  • Ice
  • Peppermint stick
  • Mint sprig for garnish
Place crushed candy cane bits into pint glass. Muddle the candy cane slightly, breaking up the bigger pieces. Do not over-muddle into a powder. Add vodka, brandy and half-and-half and stir. Pour into a shaker with ice. Shake lightly to chill and strain into old-fashioned glass full of ice. Add a peppermint stick and stir. Garnish with a mint sprig.

Gift Guide: Marvelous Moms

Time for another Holiday 2012 gift guide!

Mommy Dearest is basically my best friend so the majority of my Christmas shopping ends up being for her. She's probably both the easiest and the hardest person I have to shop for! Plus, since we spend Christmas morning together (just the two of us) I always feel like I need a lot of things for her to open.

Now, I realize this particular shopping guide is pretty specific to my mom's tastes but a nice wallet, a new scent, and jewelry are universally a good idea.
Bostonista Gift Guide: Moms!

Last Christmas, I took a chance with Jo Malone London's Vanilla & Anise cologne. One of my mom's all time favorites is Flowerbomb and the Anise in Jo's scent brings that same warm tone but is a little bit lighter.
I discovered Voluspa candles in Florida at the resort's store a few weeks ago.
I fell in love with their romantic packaging and dreamy aromas so I brought back a couple as gifts. Their chestnut and vitiver candle is great for the holidays but is woodsy enough that it can be enjoyed all winter long.
Natura Bisse is an innovative skin care company from Barcelona. The Oxygen Mask is perfect for deep cleaning, re-hydrates and boosts skin's glow. I know my mom will love it.

No matter what you get for your mom this year remember that she'll appreciate a hug and kiss just as much as the most expensive gift.

Gift Guide: Lady Luxe

Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?
I wouldn't say that I'm a last minute shopper but I'm also not a Black Friday at Midnight kind of girl!
I'm sure there are many more mid-December shoppers out there just like me, so, in the spirit of being helpful this holiday season I've put together some fabulous gift guides to get you through the mall.

If you're lucky enough to be budget-less, this is the guide for you.
Bostonista's LUXE Holiday Gift Guide 2012!

Bostonista Gift Guides: Lady Luxe
Tom Ford's Italian Cypress perfume is exotic enough to bring warmth to a winter night and it even smells expensive. As a Starbucks Gold card member I can understand the love for the recently announced metal etched gift-card from Gilt.  Most girls want engagement rings; the only thing I really want for Christmas is a Cartier Love bracelet from my boyfriend. It won't happen. But I can dream can't I?

Stay tuned for more excellent Bostonista Gift Guides...

Sponsored Post: My No nonsense Style

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of No nonsense.
All opinions are 100% mine!

When No nonsense asked me to do a sponsored post, I was more than a little skeptical. How could this affordable brand, available at mass retail and drug stores, compete with my usual high end obsessions?
As soon as I opened the box, I knew I was wrong. I couldn't believe how soft, sexy, and well made they seemed!

As I pulled on the first pair (the opaque footless tights in black), I immediately noticed the easy stretch.
I'm a clumsy girl and I'm always worried about ripping my tights but these rolled on easy (and have stayed snag free over multiple wears) and helped hold in my winter weight!  Not something I would expect if I had picked them up at Target!

Tonight, I wore these with my favorite black shift dress from H&M to a blogger event in Boston.

Bostonista x No nonsense

The second pair of No nonsense tights in the box were a little bit harder for me to even try on. I'm not really a "fishnets" kind of girl so it was a challenge to work them into my closet! I decided to embrace the spirit and go full on bombshell. So, for a date night, I put on my favorite red mini dress with the No nonsense Lace Openwork tights and peep toes.

Bostonista x No nonsense 2

From Top: Z Spoke by Zac Posen Dress (similar here), ASOS Bow Belt with Metal, Nasty Gal Armour Envelope Clutch, No nonsense Lace Net Openwork Tights, Guess Gavrila Suede Heels
I probably won't be picking up another pair of fish nets any time soon but it was fun to try something different.

I love that I can just run up the street to CVS, grab a pair of No nonsense leggings or tights for under $10 knowing that they are actually going to withstand the T!
If you're still not convinced the folks at No nonsense have put together a fun video filled with styling ideas!

I was sponsored by No nonsense for this opportunity.

Cara Delevingne at Chanel Pre-Fall 2013

My current model obsession, Cara Delevingne, killing it on the runway tonight at Chanel's Pre-Fall 2013 collection in Edinburgh, Scotland.

My room is currently plastered with her cover story from the Fall/Winter 2012 Style.com magazine!

Inside/Out Beauty

Sorry for the lack of updates my lovelies. November has been a crazy month with a hospital stay (yikes), complicated work changes, and a much needed two week vacation!

But I'm back now and can't wait to share one of my holiday discoveries with you!
I know that being "The Bostonista" implies that I should only write about Boston, and maybe New England, but I had such a wonderful experience in Florida that I need to share it!
While enjoying the Gulf of Mexico, I decided to take in a spa day...or two. So I ventured over to the Kay Casperson Spa & LifeStyle Boutique at the Seven Seas Resort on Captiva Island.

(Daily Affirmations)

You know I'm skeptical about allowing people and new products near my ultra sensitive skin but between kissing, sunscreen and extreme temperature changes I needed something to calm my breakout!   I was desperate!

After an amazing massage, I decided to take the jump and scheduled one of the Kay Casperson Signature Facials. It was the best thing I did over my entire vacation. Using Kay's all natural skin products, my esthetician steamed, squeezed, and exfoliated my skin into soft submission. One of the great things about BIO is that each product includes a suggestion or affirmation for inner beauty that when taken to heart can be reflected back in your appearance. Basically, if you feel good about yourself and your choices then you'll look good too!

(Repair Herbal Moisture Gel)

After my 30 minute treatment I was amazed by how my skin glowed and its soft, smooth texture. Although I found it uncomfortable after deep exfoliation during the treatment, I ended up purchasing the Repair Herbal Moisture Gel to bring home with me. I love how quickly the gel formula is absorbed and that the gotu kola ingredient helps to heal and moisturize. I've mostly been using it as a treatment for my problem areas but at night I apply a thin layer as a moisturizer. When applied as a spot treatment I can see an almost immediate reduction in redness and swelling. It is kind of miraculous.
The girls were sweet enough to give me a couple of samples of the other products that are perfect for sensitive skin like mine. Despite my best efforts to ration, I'm already running low on the Remove Cleansing Gel and I'm already planning on stocking up on the Resurface Herbal Masque for weekly home facials!

(Kay explaining her products and philosophy)

Kay Casperson began her career as a writer, consultant and teacher but discovered a passion for helping women embrace their inner beauty through affirmations and inspiring positive change in their lives. For more than a decade Kay's skincare line, BIO Essentials, has been used in spas around the country. In 2009, she opened her first signature spa and boutique on Captiva with a second location opening in the next few months in Orlando.

I really can't recommend her products enough and if you are lucky enough to find yourself in Florida you definitely need to take some time to visit one of her spas. Your skin will thank you!

On another note entirely, congratulations to Sarah Arpino for winning my giveaway with Rent the Runway! If you missed the chance to enter, you can still sign up with code BOSTONISTA and receive $25 off your first order!
