For this week’s Friday Favorites, I thought I’d outline my summer skincare routine. A few weeks ago, I received a new facial cleanser that is formulated as an anti-aging product for all skin types. I tried it once, and really liked it so I ditched my tried-and-true Cetaphil. This was a huge mistake. While my skin was softer and brighter, it also started breaking out. Blackheads all over my nose, painful cysts on my chin and lots of redness. I gave it the benefit of the doubt, hoped it would clear up but…no such luck. So, it’s back to my simple skincare routine as summer draws to a close!

My morning routine is a quick four steps because who wants to spend all morning in the mirror?
Morning Routine:
1. First, I wash up with Cetaphil’s Gentle Skin Cleanser. I splash with lukewarm water and squeeze a dime-sized amount of cleanser onto my palm, rub my hands together and then rub all over my face paying particular attention to my chin, forehead and around the nose. Then I rinse it all off with a splash or two of cool water.
2. Pat dry with a towel. I like using the disposable Kleenex Hand Towels to pat dry my face so that I know it’s completely clean without any oils or bacteria that could end up back on my skin.
3. I use a small amount of Clean & Clear’s Morning Burst Hydrating Gel Moisturizer and spread across my entire face and neck. I prefer the gel formulas because they are oil free but still provide enough moisture for my dry areas.
4. Eye time! I put one tiny pump of Neova’s Refining Eye Lift onto my ring fingers and massage it into my under eye areas and around my eyes.
When you’re really tired or have been out super late, it’s really easy to fall asleep without taking off your makeup or washing your face. I’ve done it countless times and always regret it in the morning. My solution? Keeping a jar of makeup removing, cleansing wipes by my bed. So, even if I miss the rest of the routine at least I know I’m sleeping on clean skin.

Bedtime Routine:
1. Either wiping my face down with Preserve Skincare’s Orange Blossom pads or my usual Cetaphil wash.
2. One small pump of Clarin’s Double Serum massaged into my cheeks, chin, and temples. I try to avoid my forehead as it tends to be oiler and breaks out more easily.
3. Even though it’s called Morning Burst, if my skin is feeling dry or tight I’ll use a tiny amount of moisturizer in those specific areas.
4. More Neova around my eyes!
That’s it! I know many women in Korea have a ten-step plus nightly routine but I just don’t have the patience or the money to invest in it! Keeping things simple have kept my skin clear and, more importantly, healthy.
Do you switch up your routine as the seasons change or do you keep things as they are if they work?
